We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, March 25, and provided our best horse racing tips.
A strong race day in the program guide, but it really does highlight the weakness in our middle distance Weight for Age ranks when you see the acceptances come out.
In stark contrast, we saw a cracking bunch of 2yo talent duke it out last week, but sadly, the vast majority of that field will either leave our shores, or leave our tracks before they are four and are even ready to run a mile.
With that in mind, we have looked to work the angles this week, drilling down into the Weight for Age features, and finding the genuine WFA horses, most of which are surprising value.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, March 25.
Eagle Farm, Race 2 – 1. Bottega ($5.00/$2.10)
Talented, but not the most reliable conveyance.
We have got in and got out again a couple of times with him now since the move to QLD, keeping our powder dry in between, and going off the Sydney experience, that is the way to approach him.
He looked a world beater on a number of occasions down there, but just when you thought he was starting to get a roll on, he would flip his form out of nowhere.
Think it’s the right time to strike again though folks.
He produced an excellent run over 1400m resuming, attacking the line strongly late, showing he still has a zest for racing. Straight to a mile and settled in a beautiful spot in a race that was setting up for him beautifully tempo wise, when his rider elected to roll forward three deep a long way from home.
Not surprising he just one batted finishing off.
Rising 7yo, so he’s probably looking for this trip now.
Would have preferred to see a senior take over, but he does carry more than his share in these events on account of his stakes form at 3 & 4yo.
Drawn soft, if he replicates his first up run on, he has too much quality for these after the claim.

Rosehill, Race 4 – 1. Huetor ($8.00/$2.60)
Plain as expected returning from injury, but showed plenty of signs he is getting back to the horse that convincingly lowered Zaaki’s colours in the Doomben Cup.
Hooked deep early, and covered plenty of ground, loomed, then knocked up late, 2nd up straight to 2000m.
Stays at 2000m, comes back to a SWP race. Draws well.
Has the class edge and looks to be ready to go again. That makes him very hard to beat.

Flemington, Race 4 – 2. The Bopper ($3.20)
He has reached a reasonably high level of success in his career, but you would have to say this prep has really seen the best of him.
He should be undefeated in all three QLD runs, and the switch back to strictly short course/hold up and let rip pattern has unlocked something special inside of him.
Absolutely ran out of his skin behind some very high quality horses in the Challenge Stakes.
He is airborne at the minute, and he gives every indication he will relish another look down the straight at Flemington.
Last time he was here, he led over 1100m, and was run down late by a duet that included future G1 winner Bella Nipotina.
A different horse these days and he will be too good for this bunch.

Rosehill, Race 8 – 14. Montefilia ($4.60/$1.90)
About the only thing out of a field of supposedly quality WFA horses that made Dubai Honour actually work for its half a million bucks last week.
She was out and running a long way from home, tracking deep, and still coming late.
That’s her though, she needs to build into it, hence why she has such a handy record at 2400m.
Already a multiple Group 1 winner, she proved last week she is ready to do it again, this time in open company and at WFA.
David Payne has a reputation for setting his horses tough assignments, but his record speaks for itself, and backing her up and going out in trip is very on point.
Clearly on top for mine against a bunch that are mostly having a barrier trial for the Sydney Cup.

Flemington, Race 7 – 9. Right You Are (N/A)
*This horse has since been scratched.*
Not sure what Right You Are has done wrong to not be favourite here, and you are probably entitled to be a little dirty if you’ve won 5 in a row and Cascadian has toppled you for top billing in the betting.
To be fair, that horse has probably done enough to shake his ‘nonnie’ tag by now, but he is still a horse that has hit his glass ceiling in terms of career achievements.
This is not a strong Australian Cup, it’s not even a race worthy of G1 status.
This horse was dead set jogging on the corner last start, and this is no harder. And whereas Cascadian has probably plateaued career wise, at a very lightly raced 6yo, Right You Are has the greater upside.
Hope he wins to maintain this race’s credibility. And I think he will.
