We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, July 16, and provided our best horse racing tips.
A quiet week feature racing wise, smack bang in the middle of what many would agree is a rather long winter. So once again we have scouted far and wide to find you plenty of value winners.
Tips this week from Melbourne’s racing HQ Flemington, Rosehill and Kembla Grange in New South Wales, Eagle Farm in Brisbane and we even head to the top end for our best of the day in the NT Derby.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, July 16.
Kembla Grange, Race 5 – 9. Slickman ($6.00/$2.20)
Massive win on debut then bungled the start and got back last 2nd up before charging home late.
The 1400m is more likely his go, but he is a month between runs here so they have elected to come back to the 1200m which should be truly run given the large field and will more than likely resemble something closer to a seven furlong race given the trying conditions.
He had no trouble motoring over the ground late on a soft track on debut, and provided it doesn’t get bottomless here by race 5, he looks as though he’ll get through a track currently rated a Heavy 8.
Has loads of ability and will gap them shortly once he puts it together. Let’s hope Saturday is the day.

Rosehill, Race 7 – 5. Irish Legend ($4.40)
Really liked his debut when he encountered a tough passage in the straight but kept coming late and only just missed.
They have scratched to dodge wet tracks but he’s had plenty of time to have a look at them in his work over the last month since we first saw him and he is a European bred.
Drawn to get a soft run here and will be hard to hold out if he can reproduce what he showed on debut.

Flemington, Race 6 – 9. Squid Game ($2.20)
Would only need to handle the Heavy track to be winning here you suspect.
Has been ticking over beautifully all prep. Made good ground from well back first up and then should have finished a lot closer last start behind the handy Inundation. He has failed since but extenuating circumstances there so I wouldn’t read too much into that.
Craig Williams replaces the apprentice rider here from a good draw and his racing pattern is ideal for Flemington.
Looks ready.

Eagle Farm, Race 8 – 15. Soffika ($6.50/$2.40)
Interesting decision to kick off in Brisbane with this imported 5YO, but clearly they are chasing a Good rated surface.
Two very nice trials back in Sydney, blinkers on for her debut, and she is Group 3 placed at Newmarket back home and finds herself in a Class 3 set weights field against moderate post carnival opposition.
A lot to like about her including the price.

Darwin, Race 7 – 3. Rising Fire ($4.40)
Was the best credentialed horse in the Guineas field. They rode him for luck that day and didn’t get a lot of it. Fair to say he was pretty close to a good thing beaten.
Proved to have no issues with the dirt, still maintaining a run inside runners from back near last on the rails. He will no doubt have to go back again here from the draw but Shiers will only need to pick them off in pairs and be within striking distance on the corner, and he will mow them down.
Hard fit off the back of runs at a mile and 2000m back in QLD, so the trip is no issue.
Looks the bet of the day.
