Free Horse Racing Tips - 14th Jan
Fri 13th January 2023
Overwhelmed?

Overwhelmed?

We'll message you the best tips for today!

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, January 14, and provided our best horse racing tips.

A day shy of the midpoint of January and things are really heating up around the country.

Whilst it’s Magic Millions day on the Gold Coast, a traditional sweat-fest, it is the bleak city of Melbourne that takes the temp trophy this week with a top of 37 degrees forecast for Saturday at Flemington, so punters take note of the scheduled early start of 10.30am at Victoria’s racing HQ, with all races run and won before 3pm.

Back to the GC, and if you are anything like the author of this tips page, you’re highly likely to stab your eyeballs out with your trusty Bic4 form guide pen if you are forced to suffer through another social media post of some linen shirted, loafer wearing bloke in a funny looking hat complaining about how sore his feet are after inspecting “so many lots this week” at the yearling sales before musing upon the superstar qualities of the million dollar colt he just bought on credit.

So switch off the snaps, turn off the tweets, and engage in some quality content here at The Racing Sharks as we seek to get it done for the real punters once again.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, January 14.

Kembla Grange, Race 1 – 2. Scream ($4.60)

Zoustar gelding from a strong yard who appears was galloped on mid race then failed to negotiate the home bend on account of the injury at his only run to date. Forget that, and it is hard not to be impressed by everything else he’s done.

Two strong trials this time in, a winner his latest in good time. He gets a gun draw and one of the better riders riding at the meeting on a day where hoops are spread thin across the country.

Expect him to win, and win well.

Flemington, Race 7 – 1. Pounding ($6.50/$2.35)

Rock hard fit, loves firm tracks, a winner at this track and trip last start after splitting Detonator Jack and So Si Bon on a similar surface and expanse in a strong 100 rater at Sandown Hillside prior.

One’s highly promising, the other is highly talented when he turns up, and they duked it out in a top tussle again last week suggesting that form stacks up rather well here.

Up in weight on account of the win and drop in grade but has attacked the line strongly his past two suggesting he is going well enough to lump it and still win.

The old firm of Moody and Nolen team up here with Jamie Kah on Magic Millions duties. I see no reason to jump off, especially at the price.

Gold Coast, Race 6 – 1. King of Sparta ($1.90)

Strong winner first up when putting pay to a few of these.

He was the Guineas winner here last year, thrives on firm tracks, and has good second up stats.

Rider Chad Schofield dropped the stick at the top of the straight last start, but it mattered little as he still sprinted quickly and spaced them.

Shooting For Gold looks the only horse with the quality to threaten him, but meets him at the same weights for a 2L defeat.

Expect McDonald to be happy to camp off this small field and prove too strong for them in the run home.

Looks one of the better bets of the day.

Gold Coast, Race 7 – 2. Sovereign Fund ($6.00/$2.25)

We are putting our head in the noose here and are going to tip one in what is traditionally close to the trickiest race of the year.

With that in mind we are going to keep it pretty simple and put what I believe is the best horse in the race on top.

Not perturbed by the poor draw here, as four of the last six winners of the race have come from double figure draws including Houtzen who jumped from 16. This colt has drawn 17, comes in to 15 as it currently stands, then factor out the emergencies and he most likely jumps from 12. That’s the same marble Away Game and Sunlight drew whilst last year’s winner, Coolangatta bounced from 10.

All pretty handy gallopers, whether he reaches their heights remains to be seen, however he does look very smart.

Sat deep and was far too good for them in the Wyong Millions, then beat nothing and had it all his own way last start when he came to QLD for the first time, but you could not help but be impressed by the way he quickens.

I think Cylinder is the best of the 2YO’s I’ve seen thus far even though he is still a maiden. That taps into the form line through Fire Lane who defeated Cylinder narrowly in the Max Lees Classic before proving too strong for race favourite Empire of Japan last start but in between he copped windburn from this Capitalist colt out of the Snowden yard.

Jamie Kah sticks after the last start hitout which is a good lead, and I think he can replicate the deeds of his old man and claim the feature of the day.

Darwin, Race 3 – 6. Swing With Junior (TBA)

Found it very hard to split the stablemates from the Chloe Baxter yard here but am leaning towards the bonny mare by Warhorse over the top weight.

Drawn to suit in the small field where a couple of on-pacers with weight off their back will ensure this is a run at a good clip. She will get the last crack at them and has been knocking on the door for a win and the 1200m.

Talented apprentice Jade Hampson will no doubt be hungry to taste top end success again after a recent sojourn down south with the Richard Jolly yard.

Will give this a sight at odds. Save on the quinella.

Rob Davis has spent, or some might say misspent, a lifetime in the racing industry working everywhere from the stables of hall of fame trainers, to a form analyst for some of the countries leading online racing sites and bookmakers through to curating tracks at some of Australia’s most far flung racing outposts. These days he spends his time creating online content, providing tipping services and making a living off the punt whilst putting the finishing touches to his ‘Great Australian Racing Novel’. It’s fair to say that what Rob Davis doesn’t know about the racing game isn’t worth knowing and he now provides you with his five best bets, twice a week, Wednesday and Saturday, for you here at the Racing Sharks.
