Overwhelmed?

Overwhelmed?

We'll message you the best tips for today!

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, December 16, and provided our best horse racing tips.

Certainly plenty of Christmas feels around town and no doubt in many workplaces where the masses have most likely well and truly mentally checked out by now. But we are here to ensure you don’t have that Christmas feel in your side pocket, that being an empty wallet!

A big day Wednesday with three winners and a placing from our four selections that made it to the starting line, and we are hoping the spirit of giving can flow on into Saturday this week.

We’ve certainly put the hard yards and the kilometres in covering meetings in Caulfield, Randwick, Gawler, and Darwin in the Top End.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, December 16.

Caulfield, Race 8 – 3. Bel Air ($3.70)

Went back from a tricky draw at Cranbourne and was forced to cover ground under a big weight with a short run home.

Nearly got there, and the winner of that is pretty handy and will go around favourite in race 5 on this card.

Good 2nd up when held up at the top of the straight. Looked home there only just peaking late.

Hits this 4th up, visors come off with the step to 1400m.

Has contested stronger races than this and is never far away. Looks ready.

Gawler, Race 7 – 2. Harley’n’rose ($8.50/$2.90)

I have a bit of time for this 3YO gelding who ran some nice races behind some talented gallopers earlier in the year.

Treasureway promised a lot in the Spring but was perhaps aimed a bit high and the team failed to settle on a target distance for her which may have cost her a fighting chance.

The Godolphin colt Heuristic looked exciting but hasn’t been seen since. Whilst Air Assault went on to place in the Group 3 Vase for 3YOs at The Valley before failing in the Derby.

A couple of nice minor placings chasing them home has you well in the mix coming back to a Class 1 over 1200m fresh.

Just the one run last prep when he ran last and was tipped straight out. This looks like a good starting point to get things back on track. Todd Pannel and barrier 1 an even bigger help.

Nice horse, good price, great song! Our best roughie of the day.

Randwick, Race 8 – 6. Crafty Eagle ($5.50/$2.15)

Very talented galloper who never has much luck with barrier draws and does himself no favours in the run.

Think we saw enough though from him first up to say that whatever they have done with him at home is working. He certainly looks like a better ride this time in.

Arguably should have won the Winx Guineas with a better draw and half decent ride. Likewise the Grafton Guineas his next start.

Was able to settle at the rear of the field and peel clear and produce a nice run when asked first up at 1200m.

Goes to 1400m 2nd up from a draw they’ll go back from again. On his home track with a race where there will be plenty of pace. Sets up nicely for him.

Caulfield, Race 9 – 2. Gravina ($10/$3.30)

Godolphin galloper who has been building nicely throughout his prep and looks ready for 1400m.

Sneaky good late last start when making ground back inside of tired horses.

That was over 1200m at stakes level. Sound in a strong race, The Hunter, back in NSW prior to that.

Previous winner at Caulfield. At his best he is a 1.5L runner up to Think About It at Group 3 level back in February of this year.

Gets Micky Dee, a good draw, back to an Open Handicap.

Darwin, Race 5 – 2. To The Point (TBA)

Missed the kick last week 2L on account of another horse playing up and a starter with an itchy trigger finger.

No fault of his own there and only went down 3L on the line.

On the quick back up here, 3rd up, staying at 1200m with a gun draw and his regular rider aboard.

Always puts in when he’s in a contest, and he won 3rd up last prep at 1200m coming out of barrier 1!

Stable have been quiet with only a few runners since tasting feature race success during the Darwin Cup Carnival earlier in 2023, but were back on the scene with a blistering win with a newcomer in the maiden last week, smashing the 1000m Fannie Bay track record.

A lot to like here.
