We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, December 10, and provided our best horse racing tips.
The festive season is fast approaching, and aside from looking to line our pockets, we also should be looking at where we want to be spending it.
With the quality of racing coming up between now and Magic Millions weekend in Queensland, why wouldn’t you want to shift your focus there?
Which is precisely what we’ve done. With two of our top 5 picks coming from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast, whilst we have looked to last season’s Doomben Cup winner as one our best bets of the day.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, December 10.
Sandown, Race 5 – 6. Detonator Jack ($1.85)
Just the weather God’s conspired against him second up on Ballarat Cup day.
He’s a smart horse. Genuine excuses for his two defeats.
Short enough, but absolutely should atone today.

Randwick, Race 7 – 4. Waihaha Falls ($3.50)
He’s a big chance to get life if he buggers this up.
Beautifully weighted under the race conditions, draws well, and a senior rider takes over.
Some query with the good track but even though he is well and truly bred to eat mud for breakfast, he has been far from a duffer in the dry in the past.
Probably should have won the Sydney Stakes aka The Everest consultation race with even luck in running. Not entirely sure that is a super form reference this year, but either way, he should have won.
Dwelt, got further back than instructed 2nd up on Newcastle’s feature day. The rider panicked and cost himself ground before the corner when he should have waited. Lost sight of the leader as he eased across multiple heels, but came again when challenged to nail down second. That’s why Avdulla replaces Reece Jones. And the fact he knuckled down and was determined to beat off the other runners is a massive positive.
No excuses today.

Randwick, Race 8 – 1. Huetor ($7.00/$2.50)
We are going to go with the Doomben Cup winner here as our best roughie of the day, first up, in a race formerly known as The Villiers but now known as The Ingham, which is worth double the prize money of its old namesake, and has opened with a market that sees the 2nd emergency as a pronounced favourite.
Confused? Don’t be. This is modern racing.
If the Maher/Eustace import fails to obtain a run, which is most likely given the positive forecast, then Huetor will probably start close to favourite, but it will still be an open market with each-way betting.
A couple of keys here. Big track. Dry track. And plenty of tempo.
This bloke’s turn of foot is lethal. Watch him put a length and a half on Zaaki in a couple of strides at the 100m in the Doomben Cup. Don’t believe me still? Watch his recent trial!
That Zaaki form reads pretty good. Given what we saw from the Fab 4 that battled out the premier WFA races over the Spring. Zaaki would be 6/4 in this.
I have no doubt he is the best horse in the race. Whether he is 5L better first up over a tough mile against import Nugget who is well weighted, and hard fit 3rd up, that is another question. But one you might be able to bin if the emergency Nugget doesn’t get a run.
I think he’s got the rest covered though. Race really suits him and I think he’s about to bullock his way onto the big stage of top tier WFA middle distance horses in the country.

Gold Coast, Race 7 – 8. Singer Sargent (N/A)
*This horse has since been scratched.*
We had to play the waiting game after he was scratched on multiple occasions prior to his maiden win, and when we finally found him, there wasn’t much left for punters.
But he won like a good thing should on that occasion and I was really looking forward to seeing him step up in grade again, but I just didn’t want to see it against a runner that we also got a result out of last start.
That can’t be helped, in fact that just means you’re doing the form right, and it does give us a good reference point. With that in mind I’m happy to go with the Kacy Fogden gelding over the Chris Waller trained filly.
Sibylla was gutsy when grinding out a win at just her second start in the ‘Sunshine State’, and whilst her run that day did indicate she should appreciate further, she just didn’t attack the line with the same desire or vigour as what Singer Sargent has in his limited starts to date.
He really does give the impression that this sort of trip, and further, is where his future lies. And it also probably lies at better fixtures than the QLD Saturday provincial meeting.
Jag knows the horse well, and steers as well as any pilot riding on the Gold Coast. Expect he wins this pretty comfortably. Save on the Sibylla quinella just to be safe.

Eagle Farm, Race 8 – 3. Arentee ($6.50/$2.35)
Great to see him stand up after an ambiguous first up run.
He’s always shown plenty of ability, right up to the level of this sort of race, and probably then some but they possibly gave him one run too many last prep, and he did appear to race genuinely flat when he resumed.
Whatever the issue, it was clearly ironed out at home after clearing out the cobwebs with the first up run, as they put it on like Hot Sauce second up.
The margin wasn’t great there, but the run had a lot of merit. The GC circuit isn’t for everyone (horse, rider or race goer!), and he had to be given a good dig out of the machine to land where he needed to from the sticky draw.
Great job by the stable’s newly acquired apprentice rider there to get him to come back to her. And an even better job to resist whaling him and keep him balanced up in the run home, even in spite of the thin margin they were holding.
He was never going to get beat, but at the same time he never looked quite comfortable.
Maloney jumps back on here, he gets to the expanses of a reinvigorated Eagle Farm track, and looks ready for the 1400m now as he slowly, but surely starts to mature.
He’s a promising talent who will give these lucrative stakes races in Brisbane and the Gold Coast a serious shake over the next couple months if he can keep putting it all together on game day.
