Overwhelmed?

We'll message you the best tips for today!

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, April 22, and provided our best horse racing tips.

Just as you thought the Sydney Autumn carnival was over, a quick scour of the fields and you quickly realise that the love child of RNSW and NRL supremo Peter V’Landys is just a gift that keeps on giving.

We head up the M7 from Randwick headquarters to the Hawkesbury Race Club for a strong card of feature racing headlined by the Hawkesbury Gold Cup where we think we’ve found one for you at odds.

In Victoria we are off to The Peninsula for a metro meeting at Mornington for our ‘Best Roughie of the Day’ play.

In Queensland where the Winter carnival is ramping up, we are heading to Doomben for our best bet. And we strongly recommend you roll into a former Group 1 winner going around at the Red Centre as they head toward their feature Pioneer Sprint and Alice Springs Cup meeting.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, April 22.

Hawkesbury, Race 1 – 4. Icebreaker ($7.50/$1.85)

Willing to play against the favourite here in the undefeated Godolphin runner, Zardozi.

She had everything go right for her on debut, and then just had the wood on a small field over a heavy track 2nd up.

I thought the run of the David Payne, Pariah filly, Icebreaker was of note there after she had made it into the blackbook off her recent trial.

She’s speedy, looks tough, but was just lacking in race experience there, especially on the shifty ground.

Hoping we are no worse than a Soft5 here. I like the idea of her controlling the tempo out to 1400m on firmer ground around a tricky track which she’s had a look at now.

Stable have a good record of landing black type races with their 2YOs at odds.

Looks a nice play if the each-way betting stands up. Save on the quinella with the fave.

 Mornington, Race 2 – 8. Botany ($11/$3.50)

They appeared to be in two minds as to how they wanted to ride her last start.

She began very well from the inside draw but they certainly didn’t want to be in front, quite possibly because she was 2nd up and at Sandown.

Quickened nicely when produced off a cushy run, but peaked final 75m and weakened late.

That might have been tempo and ride related. I’m prepared to give her one more especially now she is finally going to get to a mile which, being a daughter of a Kentucky Derby winner, you would have to think is more her go.

The draw has left them little choice but to be positive if she jumps as clean as she did last start now they are at Mornington. 3rd up, short run home. A heady ride could see her back in the winner’s stall.

Price is right to play around with her.

Doomben, Race 5 – 1. Ef Troop ($5.50/$2.15)

He hasn’t been the most genuine conveyance over the years, but he was excellent in his two runs last campaign.

It does feel like he’s been around in everything, especially now he’s a rising 8YO, but with that in mind it makes sense that they gave him a short, sharp prep last time in which saw him go to the paddock still in good order.

Combine that with an effortless trial win and his proven quality well above this level, and it gives a ring of confidence that he can produce a win here first up.

Never runs a bad race at Doomben, and placed behind a pair of very handy sprinters last time in that would be odds on if they were carrying top weight in this.

Very keen.

Alice Springs, Race 3 – 4. Savatoxl ($1.85)

Would only have to be within the same postcode as his old form to be winning here.

Former Group 1 Goodwood Sprint winner, owned by Alice Springs interests, he lines up here for what should be a barrier trial worth $17k to the winner en route to another Goodwood tilt.

107 rater with the next closest horse rated 13.5kgs below him, he meets this field at set weights WFA conditions.

You might get better than $1.50 on account of him being piloted by the local apprentice rider, but it will matter little.

Expect him to be the anchor leg of some large multis late in the day.

Hawkesbury, Race 9 – 9. Jojo Was A Man ($13/$4.00)

Rolled the dice and gave him the run last week, even in spite of him being an Al Maher on wet ground.

He loomed, chasing a hot tempo set by claiming apprentice Zac Lloyd who had most of them off the bridle and chasing a long way out.

Very excited when I saw him in the nominations backing up for these, and even more excited that he is reuniting with Reece Jones.

This is a clear target race for him. His 3rd up form is excellent. He won twice at a mile last prep. He strikes at 50% win rate with Reece Jones up. And his pattern suits Hawkesbury.

Well and truly up to a race of this quality. Shocked by the opening price.
