The Summer Cup headlines a quality card at Sydney’s traditional Boxing Day venue, Royal Randwick. Whilst we have a number of stakes races at Sandown in Melbourne and a solid program of racing set down for the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Monday, December 26.
Sandown, Race 4 – 1. Nugget ($1.80)
Opened in the red and doubt we’ll see black figure odds about this bloke, unless he loses a leg in some kind of Christmas Day mishap.
No doubt there will be plenty of that sort of action in backyards throughout the country but I think we can rest assured that this bloke will be at home in his box wrapped in cotton wool because he looks the best of good things on Boxing Day.
He’s won two of his last three and only had his colours lowered by the exciting Detonator Jack this time in.
Would only need to have maintained that form and he just wins this.

Sunshine Coast, Race 4 – 2. The Bopper ($3.20)
It would seem the stable might have run out of patience persevering with this fellow down south as they are now looking at easier targets for him around Brisbane.
He has always shown plenty but has just fallen a couple of lengths short on what he appeared to promise early on. That said, he is already a stakes winner, and more than capable of bagging a race like this.
Very solid effort last start when boxing on late behind the very smart I Am Me. The step back to the 1000m really allows them to enact a hold up/ run on type ride which is when he is at his best I think.
This looks like a nice target for him to get back to the winner’s stall.

Randwick, Race 6 – 1. Lion’s Roar ($7.00/$2.50)
Any number of usual suspects here that prove very hard to catch to put it mildly, but I think we can pin the top weight down on the back of his run in The Ingham.
This former Randwick Guineas winner and ATC Derby placegetter is a very high level galloper when he is right and seems to save his best racing for his home circuit.
His four best career runs have all come at Randwick, three of which were on Good rated tracks. He gets that here, and gets to his ideal trip after finishing strongly behind his stablemate in a high pressure Group 2 mile.
Can overcome the weight pull and go one better than last start.

Sandown, Race 7 – 8. Rose Quartz ($5.50/$1.85)
Couldn’t overcome the heavy bias to the outside rail when she lined up down the Flemington straight second up. Prepared to overlook that run where she was never really in the hunt and subsequently wasn’t knocked around.
We’ll put our faith in master horseman Graham Begg in that she must have come through the run well and right for this stakes race on the quick back up.
There’s no doubt Andermatt is talented, but he is equally over rated at the same time and appears to have more of a liking for very rain affected going.
Sandown suits her with the long run on the Hillside circuit for her to wind up. Forget she went around last start, and if she unleashes a finish like she did first up, there won’t be anything in this that can hold her out.

Randwick, Race 8 – 13. Sawrey ($19/$5.50)
Talented but frustrating galloper who took a while to break through last campaign after running into some handy types in maiden grade as well as having a few hard luck stories rolled in there too.
Bold move to come to town first up but I have no doubt the stable have a very high opinion of him, and his recent trial was very good going to the line under his own steam behind a genuine Saturday grade metro competitor.
Enigmatic, but worth a play at big odds. More than capable of featuring in a race like this if things fall his way.
