2020 Premiere Stakes Preview, Odds, & Tips

It’s a bumper day of racing at Royal Randwick with three Group 1 contests. Let’s take a look at a race just as good as them, with several The Everest slot holders going head-to-head in the Premiere Stakes (1200m), and a few sure to put their hand up for the two remaining slots…

1 – Nature Strip – $1.85 ???

Never a dull moment with this star, who on his day is probably the best horse in the country and just about unbeatable. However, he’s lost first up this preparation, thrown James McDonald during a barrier trial, and was slow away in his last trial. That’s enough for a few question marks, especially at the skinny price. That being said, he could turn up and absolutely blow them away.

2 – Classique Legend – $3.20 ???

Absolutely monstrous first up when winning The Shorts first up, racing keenly and then taking an age to find a run, but coming home in such spectacular fashion that he drew comparisons to Chautauqua. Can see him running another big race and with Nature Strip’s erratic behaviour, could very well knock him off.

3 – Deprive – $31

Has a good first up record, but this is very tough considering the two heavyweights at the top of the field. Could be in the running to place at his absolute best.

4 – Standout – $14 ?

Was in heavy traffic the whole way and worked well to get through it and just peak on his run late in The Shorts. Has drawn wide and may be forced to run without cover which is tough, but has place claims.

5 – Signore Fox – $126

This is a very tough ask, would be very surprised if it challenged.

6 – Lord Von Costa – $251

The Lord has been good to The Shark Club but I can’t have him here, this is a massive step up from the Vic Sprint Series Final.

7 – Fasika – $11 ?

Disappointing in the Sheraco Stakes and is capable of much better than that showing. She should be able to box seat here and could be a chance to place.

8 – Libertini – $13 ??

Looked to be a star in the making last spring with her performances around Bivouac, Exceedance, Funstar, and Probabeel, but didn’t have a great autumn and has had a long spell. If she returns a more mature type and is wound up, she definitely has place claims.
