2020 Golden Eagle Runner By Runner Preview, Odds & Tips

funstar to stick to own age 1
Fri 30th October 2020

It’s the second running of the $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m) for four-year-olds, and it’s an absolute raffle with a number of quality runners all set to collide.

Let’s look at each and every runner in the 2020 Golden Eagle (1500m)…

1 – Alligator Blood – $7.50 ??

Hasn’t looked at his best this prep and at the price I’m happy to look to others, especially with the Heavy track, wide draw, and expected brutal speed up front. Still goes in all exotics and could win if he’s back to his best.

2 – Brandenburg – $41

The price looks about right, had every chance in the Epsom Handicap but hasn’t quite looked up to it this preparation.

3 – Superstorm – $19 ??

Not out of it, and looks overs at the price. The brutal speed won’t hurt him, and if he doesn’t get too far back from the pack, he’ll be flying home late.

4 – Dawn Passage – $31

Untested on Heavy ground and has drawn a shocker of a gate, will be caught wide and have to do a stack of work. Quality galloper but against it here.

5 – Riodini – $21 ?

Have to include in wider exotics, should get through the going and has been travelling well this prep, placing in the Epsom Handicap.

6 – Windstorm – $34 ???

Looks the best roughie in the race, has been running well in Melbourne and has good wet track figures. Can do it off both fast and slow speeds and if the gaps open up, is right in this at the big price.

7 – Reloaded – $81

Highly rated by the Waller camp but looking to others

8 – Just Thinkin’ – $126

The price says it all, would have to start running now to have a chance

9 – Bottega – $31

Big fan of this galloper but may be looking for further, and this is a massive step up in grade. Happy to be against it.

10 – Criaderas – $23

Massive boom around this horse with some eye catching late runs, but think the price is about right. Didn’t like the way it got detached from the field last start, and that could happen again with a savage early speed on the cards.

11 – Flit – $15 ?

Not sure she’s looking for the 1500m, though she was dynamic in her Silver Eagle win at 1300m against a few of these. Worth including in your numbers but have a few ahead of her.

12 – Funstar – $5.50 ???

The gate obviously isn’t ideal but she’s got the early speed to go and find something to trail into the race. If she gets cover and isn’t caught too far back she’s a massive go, at the right distance, doesn’t mind the going, and has Tom Berry onboard in her grand final. Massive show

13 – Colette – $6

This is the runner short in the market I’m most keen to take on. Think punters are overreacting to her good Heavy form. She looks like she wants 2000m and above, and certainly don’t like her back to 1500m. Happy to take a set against her.

14 – Subpoenaed – $34 ???

Another at big odds that looks overs, won the Golden Pendant well two starts ago and was jostled around last outing. Think her ability in the wet is better than it looks, and she’s a massive chance.

15 – Emeralds – $35 ?

Travelling well, can include in exotics but think she’s running into a few too smart for her here.

16 – Sierra Sue – $10 ???

Hard to knock her with 5 wins from 7, but this is a big step up. Hard to line up bringing vastly different form across, but does handle the wet and shouldn’t mind the 1500m. Big show if she has luck in transit.

17 – All Saints’ Eve – $46

Price is about right, no chance here.

18 – Icebath – $15 ??

Handles the wet and has to have rough claims. Is an outside chance and goes in everything.

Emergencies

19e – Stockman – $201
20e – Enchanted Heart – $401
21e – Fender – $301
22e – Air To Air – $401

All have no chance.

From Muswellbrook to the Melbourne Cup, Will is mad about all things racing and sport. Spent countless hours in the backyard as a child pretending to be Glenn McGrath, and has been known to get deadly late swing with a taped tennis ball.
