The Sofitel, also known as the Tontonan Stakes, was first run in 2011, with the Robert Hickmott-trained Niblick claiming victory. The trainer replicated the feat a year later with Fawkner, however, hasn’t been able to do it again since.

Jockey Craig Williams has had great success in The Sofitel in recent years, winning three of the last four editions of the race. The year he missed out, he still managed to secure a place, finishing third with Eclair Calling.

In 2019, Rox The Castle managed to record a time of 1:22.83 to win The Sofitel. Although it was a decent time, it wasn’t the fastest the race has seen over the years. That honour belongs to Theanswermyfriend who clocked 1:22.62 in 2017.
