In 2020, it will be on Saturday, October 24, the same day as the $5 million Cox Plate.

The Mark Newnham-trained Diamond Thunder won the 2019 Brian Crowley Stakes, with Cardiff and Hulk finishing second and third respectively. After the victory, Diamond Thunder took no further part in the spring.

The race takes its name from horse racing trainer, jockey and administrator Brian Crowley. He sadly passed away in 1982.

Jockey Jason Collett has had great success in the Brian Crowley Stakes in recent times, claiming three wins in the last five years. In 2015 he won onboard Counterattack and then followed it with victory on Spright and then Goodfella.

Diamond Thunder ran 1:09.19 to win the 2019 edition of the Brian Crowley Stakes and although it was a decent time, it wasn’t the fastest the race has seen over the last 20 years. That belongs to Better Than Ready, who clocked 1:08.19 in 2012 to win the race.
