Phar Lap won the Craven Plate three straight times in the early 1930s, a feat which Chatham replicated. Prince Cortauld, Ming Dynasty and Mummify have also experienced success in the Craven Plate.

The John O’Shea and James McDonald combination has had decent success in the Craven Plate of late, winning it twice in the last five years. In 2015 they were successful with Complacent, before saluting with It’s Somewhat.

Happy Clapper ran 2:00.66 to win the Craven Plate in 2019, which is the fastest 2000m time the race has seen over the last 20 years. It was less than a second behind Hampton Court’s 2000m track record of 2:00.19.
