Phillip Stokes is usually measured in his praise, but he has no issues with pumping up talented filly Instant Celebrity.

The daughter of Not A Single Doubt won in eye-catching fashion at Morphettville, before a commanding win in the Thousand Guineas Prelude, and placing behind Odeum and Personal in the Thousand Guineas.

“I think she’s a Group 1 horse. No doubt. I don’t say that very often, but I do rate her as a Group 1 horse,” Stokes said.

“What distance does she run? I still think she can run a mile.”

The team are giving her an extended spell to let her mature, before targeting some Group 1s in Sydney towards the end of the autumn, meaning that she will miss the features in Melbourne.

“We’re giving her a good break just to do some maturing, so she’ll be out for another four, five or six weeks,” Stokes said.

“You won’t see her in Melbourne, no.”

“We have a few picked out but we’ve still got to get there,” he said.

“We might look at something later in the Sydney Carnival and then we have also got Adelaide and Brisbane as back-ups.”

From Muswellbrook to the Melbourne Cup, Will is mad about all things racing and sport. Spent countless hours in the backyard as a child pretending to be Glenn McGrath, and has been known to get deadly late swing with a taped tennis ball.
