Troy Corstens Confident on Caulfield Chances

Thu 13th August 2020

Troy Corstens is quietly confident about his chances on Saturday, with runners in the three Group races at Caulfield on P.B. Lawrence Day.

The Leon & Troy Corstens team have exciting colt Ranting ($6) in the Group 3 Vain Stakes, lightly raced filly Icantoo ($13) in the Group 3 Quezette, and winter campaigner Morrissy ($17) a knockout chance in the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes.

On RSN, asked if Morrissy could take on the returning Group horses beginning their spring, Corsten replied, “It’s a real question mark, isn’t it?”

“He’s really fit, he’s in a great run of form at the moment. He’ll go to the front and make his own play and hopefully have a fitness edge that might get him over the line,” Corstens said.

The son of Snitzel is a track and trip specialist, with two wins from four attempts, and if ridden forward, looks to be in the race for a long way.

When asked about three-year-old colt Ranting, Corstens said “He’s going really well… he’s come back bigger and better and we’re really looking forward to seeing him going around on Saturday.”

“Yeah he [Ranting] can definitely win, he’s a really high class horse…I’m confident with the tactics in place on Saturday,” he said.

Ranting ($6) is currently on the third line of betting, behind favourite Hydro Star ($2.80), and Rulership ($3).

The stable also has lightly raced filly Icantoo lining up in the Group 3 Quezette, who Corstens thinks is good value at the $13 quote, but has drawn awkwardly.
