Tom Marquand to Have Another Aussie Autumn

Mon 14th December 2020

Elite English rider Tom Marquand has confirmed that he will be returning to Australia for another autumn assault, a year on from his outstanding performances last year.

The jockey took out dual Group 1s on Addeybb in the Ranvet Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes, as well as racking up multiple Group 2 wins as well as the $2 million Inglis Millenium.

The hoop captured the imagination of punters, affectionately dubbed ‘Aussie Tom’ due to his performances, and he is keen to pick up where he left off last year.

“Recently I touched base with John O’Shea and I am hoping to pick up where I left off the other day in Sydney racing,” Marquand said.

“Hopefully William (Haggas) and I can keep that partnership going because we have had a great year together too.

“It’s been an exceptional year for both of us.

“I have got the travel exemption and I am VISA’d up but I haven’t nailed down specific dates.”

Marquand is expected to touch down in Australia in late January and begin riding in February after serving the mandatory quarantine.

From Muswellbrook to the Melbourne Cup, Will is mad about all things racing and sport. Spent countless hours in the backyard as a child pretending to be Glenn McGrath, and has been known to get deadly late swing with a taped tennis ball.
