2 September: 9 Must Watch Horses at Bendigo & Warwick Farm

Tue 1st September 2020

There are plenty of promising types going around midweek at Bendigo and Warwick Farm to kickstart their spring campaigns as well as the usual midweek runners, here are a few to look out for, including one with a very famous half sibling…

Bendigo

Race 1 – Ain’tnodeeldun and Indictment

These two runners put together some solid performances in their autumn two-year-old campaigns, both running in the listed Anzac Day Stakes, won by Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby favourite Flying Award.

Both of these gallopers have lots of scope for improvement coming back as three-year-olds, and both hold nominations for the Caulfield Guineas, and both sit at $26 in early Victoria Derby markets.

Not necessarily keen to bet into this one tomorrow, but just watch the market and keep them in your blackbook for later in the spring.

Race 5 – Early Morning Rise

This mare from the Danny O’Brien yard looks well placed on Wednesday, after placing when first up on a heavy deck last start. Will hit this with added fitness, and was far from disgraced when unsuited in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes last preparation. At the $6 price, she looks good value.

Race 6 – Bacchus

Chris Waller and Craig Williams combine here, with Bacchus, who had to move through heavy traffic last start and still managed to burst home and finish second. With more luck in transit here he’ll be tough to beat at $5.50.

Watch: Bacchus working through traffic to just miss last start behind Firstclass Dreamer.

Race 7 – Mozzie Monster and Scientific

Similar to the first race on the card, but this time we’re looking at two progressive fillies lining up here. Both are tough to split and that’s reflected in the market for Wednesday, where they are the equal $4 favourites.

Both have won their only career runs, with Mozzie Monster a $26 chance for the Thousand Guineas, slightly ahead of Scientific, who is a $34 pop. They’re both going up against older runners on Wednesday, and are worth keeping an eye on throughout the preparation.

Warwick Farm

Race 1 – Covent Garden

Some very royal bloodlines here, with the half-sister to Winx going around as a $4.50 chance in her second career start. Certainly worth keeping an eye on, and looks to be fighting this one out with Chris Waller’s Yangtze Rapids, a promising Frankel colt.

Race 3 – Damaged

This Godolphin galloper is full of potential and just needs to put it all together on race day. Is a trial star and was unlucky last start at Canterbury, missing the start and then racing keenly, and still managing to charge home late against the pattern of the day. Looks a bet at $3.40.

Watch: Damaged get out and motor home behind Buckin’ Beauty and Hulk.

Race 5 – Miyake

It’s hard to go past the Waller/J Mac combination here with Miyake, who looks ready to go first up after making some nice ground late in a trial without any urging.

Is nominated for the Melbourne Cup, and will have to be stringing some wins together to get the rating up, with this looking like the perfect opportunity.

Watch: Miyake breaking his maiden in style in January.

From Muswellbrook to the Melbourne Cup, Will is mad about all things racing and sport. Spent countless hours in the backyard as a child pretending to be Glenn McGrath, and has been known to get deadly late swing with a taped tennis ball.
