2022 Tattersall’s Tiara Runner By Runner Preview, Odds & Tips

The Tattersall’s Tiara is a 1400m Group 1 fillies and mares contest, held at Eagle Farm Racecourse. The $700k weight for age feature brings down the curtain on the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, and is also the last G1 race of the national racing season. Last year’s race was taken out by the Mike Moroney trained, Tofane, with Craig Williams in the saddle.

Dabble currently has Annavisto favourite for this year’s Tiara at $5.00, ahead of last start G1 winner, Snapdancer, at $6.00. A host of runners are just into double figures, highlighting just how open the race is.

So, with that in mind, we have dissected each of the horses’ chances for you and provided our horse racing tips! Read on below to find our runner by runner preview of the 2022 Tattersall’s Tiara along with The Shark’s best tips.

1. Snapdancer (21) – $6.00
Jockey – Ethan Brown 57kg
Trainer – Ciaron Maher & David Eustace

In-form mare who claimed the G1 Sangster last start in dominant fashion. Won that race from the outside gate and will have to do the same thing here. Yet to win past 1300m but has raced well up to a mile, and is hard to overlook on recent form.

2. Shout The Bar (2) – $10
Jockey – Ryan Maloney 57kg
Trainer – Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott

Talented mare who has a liking for dry tracks, which she should get here. She can be a bit hit and miss but looked good in a recent barrier trial. If she can repeat her Sunline Stakes win two starts ago, she will be hard to beat in this.

3. Annavisto (11) – $5.00F
Jockey – Rachel King 57kg
Trainer – Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr

Resumes here and has a brilliant fresh record. Blew her rivals away at Flemington first-up last prep and finished runner-up in G1 company prior to a spell. Has had two trials in preparation for this and looks a major contender.

4. Away Game (17) – $11
Jockey – William Pike 57kg
Trainer – Ciaron Maher & David Eustace

Got a long way back and finished off well last start in the G1 Kingsford-Smith, after a good second to Snapdancer in the Sangster. Will likely get back again from the wide alley, but shouldn’t be too far away when the winning post looms.

5. Kiku (10) – $10
Jockey – Tommy Berry 57kg
Trainer – Chris Waller

Got the job done in good fashion last start in the MM National Classic here at Eagle Farm. This is harder but she should enjoy a nice run behind the speed and looks an each-way hope.

6. Vangelic (8) – $34
Jockey – Mark Du Plessis 57kg
Trainer – Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott

Rolled forward but was gone a long way out last start in the Dane Ripper. Won’t find this any easier, but is capable of mixing it with this field on her day. Take on trust.

7. Nudge (19) – $14
Jockey – Nash Rawiller 57kg
Trainer – Chris Waller

Just fell short of her stablemate Kiku last start here at Eagle Farm. Loves racing here and has a dynamic turn of foot on her day, but the gate doesn’t help her chances. Watch for her late.

8. Brooklyn Hustle (13) – $13
Jockey – Stephanie Thornton 57kg
Trainer – Jason Warren & Dean Krongold

Got back and found the line well, as she does, last start in the Stradbroke. Still searching for that illustrious G1 and burning loyal punters along the way. Will be strong late but not the easiest horse to catch.

9. Wandabaa (9) – $16
Jockey – Hugh Bowman 57kg
Trainer – Kris Lees

Found the line well in the Dark Jewel at Scone and again last start in the Moreton Cup, here at Eagle Farm. Step back up to 1400m looks ideal and should enjoy a good run from the draw. Can win.

10. Atishu (5) – $12
Jockey – Jay Ford 57kg
Trainer – Chris Waller

Racing well since rectifying her barrier manners. Finished off well last start behind her stablemates, Kiku, and, Nudge, in a slowly run race and should enjoy a stronger tempo here. Drawn well and has a brilliant record this trip. Respect.

11. Charmmebaby (20) – $31
Jockey – Larry Cassidy 57kg
Trainer – Lawrie Mayfield-Smith

Ran a big race at odds in the Spear Chief behind Vinco, before scoring last start in Listed company. This is a big step up now and she’s drawn the car park, which makes it hard to see her winning again.

12. Written Beauty (18) – $34
Jockey – James Orman 57kg
Trainer – Chris Waller

Smart mare who is racing well this prep, albeit with little luck. Step up to 1400m looks ideal after her last couple, but she’s drawn an outside gate yet again. Should be strong the last furlong and is capable of running into the placings at odds.

13. Yamazaki (15) – $71
Jockey – Brodie Loy 57kg
Trainer – Annabel Neasham

Ran on well in the Silk Stocking before a below par run last start behind Kiku. Finished last in this race last year, and although she should figure better this year, it’s hard to see her winning.

14. Palaisipan (14) – $26
Jockey – Luke Tarrant 57kg
Trainer – Chris Munce

Scored a surprise win last start in the G2 Dane Ripper, after going down in BM85 grade. Will need to improve yet again to win this, but does race well here at Eagle Farm.

15. Bring The Ransom (6) – $51
Jockey – Brock Ryan 57kg
Trainer – Bjorn Baker

Didn’t have much luck last start in the Dane Ripper, after a strong win at Scone in G3 company. Drawn well and providing she gets a bit more luck at the business end, looks an each-way chance at big odds.

16. Startantes (7) – $11
Jockey – Jason Collett 55.5kg
Trainer – Robert Heathcote

Lone filly of the field who found the line well last start in the Stradbroke. Been close to G1 glory before, and gets another good chance to do so here from the soft gate.

17. Enchanted Heart (1) – $61
Jockey – Kyle Wilson-Taylor (a) 57kg
Trainer – Kris Lees

Ran well first up at Randwick before a disappointing effort here a fortnight ago. Will get a soft run from the inside draw but needs to improve to be in the money.

18e. Salateen (3) – $23
Jockey – Jim Byrne 57kg
Trainer – Tony Gollan

In form mare who made up good ground here last start behind Palaisipan. This is harder now, but if she gets a run she’s more than capable of measuring up and figuring in the finish.

19e. Dzsenifer (12) – $61
Jockey – Ben Thompson 57kg
Trainer – Gary Duncan

Strong win first up at Listed level on the Gold Coast, before finishing well back last start behind Kiku. Needs to find a few lengths to be winning.

20e. April Rain (16) – $41
Jockey – Larry Cassidy 57kg
Trainer – Chris Waller

Talented mare who is struggling to find her best form of late. Looks unlikely she will get a run here, and will need to put her best foot forward if she does to be winning.

21e. Tycoon Evie (4) – $81
Jockey – N/A 57kg
Trainer – Rex Lipp & Nick Hahn

Not far away in both runs back this prep. Will appreciate the extra furlong but this looks a bit beyond her.

Final Word

The girls take centre stage this Saturday in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara, and what a race it is. There looks to be plenty of winning chances on paper and plenty of value to be found in the market.

Going with the Kris Lee’s trained, Wandabaa, here after her last couple of efforts. She chased hard under 59kg in the Dark Jewel at Scone, and again here last start behind Baller. The step up to 1400m is a big tick, and she maps well with Bowman on top.

Shout The Bar is an interesting runner. Her win in the Sunline Stakes two back had to be seen to be believed, and if she can repeat something remotely close to that, she can win this. The dry track is a big plus.

Chris Waller has a strong hand in the race, and Atishu looks to be a good each-way hope. She’s racing in good form and should get an economical run from the gate.

Hard to leave out last start G1 winner, Snapdancer, Melbourne visitor, Annavisto, and the lone filly of the race, Startantes, shouldn’t be far away after her fast finishing fifth in the Stradbroke last start. Bring The Ransom, looks a good roughie for multiple players.
