It’s a huge Caulfield Guineas Day at The Heath with an all-stakes card on offer for punters! Let’s take a look at some of the races where there could be a bit of an edge against the bookies…
Race 3 – Weekend Hussler Stakes – 1400m
Windstorm stands out immediately here, after running down Buffalo River last start, albeit with race fitness on its side. Buffalo River is heading into the Group 1 Toorak Handicap as favourite, so it’s definitely very good form for this Listed class race.
Not much luxury with the price, but there isn’t really much else in the field to mount a serious challenge, so if you like shorties then it’s a bet.
Verdict: I’ll be backing Windstorm at $2.20.

Race 4 – Northwood Plume Stakes – 1200m
Felicia took over in the How Now Stakes (1200m) at the 150m after stalking the leader, and looks to get a very similar setup and run in this race. If the track is favouring those on pace she looks very tough to beat, and is well worth a bet at the price.
Exhilarates probably has the best chance from the back of the field if they’re running on, but is first up here after a 18-week spell and may not be quite ready to hit the ground running.
Verdict: I’ll be backing Felicia at $4.20, and if they’re running on, will save on Exhilarates at $7.50.
Deserved stakes success for 4YO mare, Felicia, with brilliant display in the Group 3 @NedsAus How Now S. at Caulfield. Trained by @dean_binaisse, Felicia becomes the 2nd black type winner for the ill-fated stallion, Unencumbered and is part-owned by breeders, White & Ballantyne pic.twitter.com/wSDgWxvOig

Race 5 – Schillaci Stakes – 1100m
This is as wide-open as it gets now that Alfa Oro has come out, and they’ve come for Diamond Effort who has now been crunched into $3.80.
I think it would be a bet around the $5-$6 mark but is now well enough found. I’m happy to have a small play on Splintex who hasn’t been far off the A-grade Everest runners in Sydney, particularly if the track is favouring leaders.
If they’re running on, I’ll also have something small on Octane, who didn’t get the best of rides last start and we’re now getting a big price, and he finds J Kah again.
Verdict: I’ll be having small plays on Splintex at $8.50 and Octane at $9.50.

A bit of a strange one here, with leading Caulfield Cup chance Orderofthegarter going around just a week out from the big dance.
Is he a little underdone, and they want to keep him ticking over, are they really going to bust him up and go all out to win with the grand final next week and also cop a weight penalty?
I think he’s the best horse in the race, but with the strange setup I’m happy to avoid Orderofthegarter at the short odds, and have a little play on Chapada, who savaged the line in the Naturalism, and connections would love to win this and secure a golden ticket into next week’s Caulfield Cup.
Verdict: I’ll be having a small play on Chapada at $6.50.
Vintage Ollie. 👌
