Time to fill up the piggy bank again after the Christmas and New Year period and what better way to do it than with a solid card of midweek racing.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for today, January 5.
Warwick Farm, Race 1 – 4. Destiny’s Bounty ($4.60)
The term ‘best maiden in the country’ is a horrible and cruel oxymoron. That said, you can consider yourself stiff if you run into a horse that has held that title for the major part of the last eighteen months.
Overlord finally cracked his duck last start at Wyong but Destiny’s Bounty did nothing wrong to finish runner up. He just found one better on the day. The ‘one better’ happens to be multiple stakes placed and arguably should have won the Group 1 J.J. Atkins where he finished fourth. That’s not a bad form reference for a midweek maiden.

This is no harder, and can atone.
Warwick Farm, Race 2 – 9. Super Vogue ($5.00/$1.50)
*Horse has since been scratched.*
We think the Team Hawkes galloper is worth playing here at the odds.
Although favourite Triffacia was unlucky last start and does have some stakes form to speak of, she has been beaten in a midweek maiden in the past and is far too short a quote for our liking.
Plenty to like about debutant Super Vogue who has looked very good winning her past two trials. She was ridden quietly on both occasions but found the line strongly so it should be no disadvantage to her to be ridden back from the wide draw.
Think she will be closing late and is a good each way price.
Sandown, Race 1 – 8. Duchy of Savoy ($1.75)
This looks one of the better bets on the day.
This 3yo filly from the powerful Hawkes yard contested much harder races than as a 2yo and was highly competitive in all of them.
This is by far her easiest assignment to date and goes into it off a nice trial win. Will start short enough but we expect her to salute accordingly.
Doomben, Race 3 – 7. Starzam ($6.50)
One of the more interesting runners across the course of the day. Kelly Schweida has taken full advantage of the interstate jockeys hanging around town in preparation for the upcoming Magic Millions by engaging the services of Nash Rawiller here for this first starter.

He’s had just the one public trial and that was in Moe, Victoria where he was previously trained by Logan Mcgill before being transferred to the Gold Coast based conditioner.
Not much else to go off, but you have to think the engagement of Rawiller is a fair lead in for punters. Where there is smoke, there is fire, so watch the betting closely.
Sandown, Race 3 – 1. Lucky Decision ($2.40)
He looks a progressive type from the Moody yard and is well placed here.
We really liked the way he chased the leader down late when breaking his maiden status at start number two. That was at 1300m and the step here to 1500m looks ideal.
Should be able to go on with it.
Best Bet – 8. Duchy of Savoy (Sandown, Race 1)
Next Best – 4. Destiny’s Bounty (Warwick Farm, Race 1)
Best Roughie – 7. Starzam (Doomben, Race 3)
