Free Horse Racing Tips - 16th Feb

Overwhelmed?

Overwhelmed?

We'll message you the best tips for today!

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Wednesday, February 16, and provided our best horse racing tips.

Not the strongest looking midweek card this week, but we still think there is plenty of opportunity to build up that balance for what is shaping up as a bumper Autumn carnival.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this day, February 16.

Kensington, Race 1 – 1. Alpha One ($7.00)

Race one, number one, Alpha One! This fellow picks himself not just in name only but also for astute trial spies.

Dwelt at his only public trial before quickly mustering and posting a commanding win, going to the line under his own steam with a few ridden out behind him, in the fastest time of a morning in what was a hot trial session featuring Eduardo. A repeat of that is good enough to win this 1100m midweek maiden.

Strong trial, good draw, Tommy Berry. Plenty of ticks.

Doomben, Race 1 – 1. Hang Five ($3.20)

They’ve been good to us lately, so let’s stick with the O’Dea/Hoysted and Ben Thompson trainer/jockey combo in the opener at Doomben.

Looked to have the stablemates measure when winning a recent trial and he may well be the main danger here.

Expect they’ll look to be more positive on the Gollan runner Kobe Lad from the better draw who’s been defeated at his past two when they’ve taken a sit. Although he has match practice on his side, we expect that sets this race up for the O’Dea/Hoysted colt and given the barn’s excellent record with juveniles, we think this colt represents a solid bet.

Sandown, Race 1 – 3. Chain ($3.60)

Former Olympic equestrian rider Greg Eurell is a well regarded horseman, there is no doubt, but he would have to be a miracle worker to turn the form around of Hong Kong expat and current favourite, Overboost.

We think the market has well and truly got it wrong here and can’t imagine the Waller runner being on the second line too long.

Overboost has beaten just six runners home in his six starts to date, and despite what the racing romantics want to tell you, there is simply not that big a gap between Hong Kong racing as there is here, even at a lowly Wednesday meeting.

Chain on the other hand, looks a progressive type who is by Exosphere who is sure to benefit from the step up in trip and from recent racing.

A good margin to second when led having his first run for Waller, then had genuine excuses when bloused late at his most recent run.

Building towards a win, and we are pretty sure this is it.

Sandown, Race 2 – 8. Field the Moment ($9.00)

*This horse has since been scratched.*

Fortune favours the brave when it comes to 2yo maiden races in Victoria.

Whilst it is not ideal for punters trying to line form up off grainy jump out footage, the old adage ‘where there is smoke…’ may well apply here.

P Stokes, B Prebble, and a good draw, for an unraced filly by speedster Deep Field is enough to suggest this might be over the odds.

Watching her go through the gears rather effortlessly in her most recent jump out tells us there might be even more to it.

Happy to have a throw at the dart board here with one we might have found at a cheeky price.

Kensington, Race 7 – 6. Cape Breton ($4.50)

He just didn’t come up last preparation, plain and simple. But they thought enough of him as he progressed through his first preparation to give him a crack at the J.J. Atkins.

Whilst this is a tricky enough affair, you can take the pick of the cattle he faces here and I seriously doubt they’ve ever been angled towards a Group 1.

He was doing some very nice work late in both trials and the 1400m first up looks ideal.

Being the last, you will have a pretty good idea of the pattern of the notorious ‘Kenso’ circuit by now. And provided it is playing reasonably fair, we suggest betting up here.

Best Bet – 3. Chain (Sandown, Race 1)
Next Best – 6. Cape Breton (Kensington, Race 7)
Best Roughie – 8. Field the Moment (Sandown, Race 2)
