We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, July 9, and provided our best horse racing tips.
There’s something to be said for the migratory patterns of wild animals who by instinct alone, with the exception of penguins and polar bears, head towards the equator at this time of year.
With that in mind we’ve extended our view to some of the farthest northern reaches this week as we wait in vain for the tracks to dry out down south. It is appropriately Winter Stakes day at Sydney racing headquarters, Royal Randwick which is shaping up as a cracking feature.
There’s also a good thing at Caulfield in Melbourne, a smart colt resuming at Doomben and further north there’s an interesting feature race which serves as a good guide to the Darwin Cup which is a destination punters should seriously be considering if they haven’t booked already.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, July 9.
Caulfield, Race 5 – 2. Inundation ($1.55)
Some bold claims being made in regards to this bloke. I’m not sure putting Squid Game away or winning a BM58 on the Pakenham Synthetic is enough to substantiate those claims, but he does look talented, and even if we rein it back a hole or two, he should cover this lot, even from the draw.
He’s on early enough in the card to take advantage of him as a multiplier for your bets later in the day.

Doomben, Race 7 – 1. Kallos ($4.00)
High quality colt from the powerful Godolphin yard who looks well placed here.
Soundly beaten by Home Affairs in the Coolmore but did blow in betting that day suggesting the stable might have felt he’d had enough by that point and he had progressed from a maiden through to a Group 2 winner in just a short space of time prior to that.
Returned to Sydney in the New Year where he was disappointing first up, with no trial, and tipped straight out.
A good break, and his two trials this time in have been excellent. The latest a very good second to the promising De An Andretti in lightning time.
Untried in the heavy but has won on the slow, and looks to have come back in the sort of order that saw him rapidly rise to stakes grade as an early 3YO.

Darwin, Race 2 – 3. Poupee (TBA)
You’ll find an on-pace bias at Fannie Bay most weeks, particularly during the wet season, but the track served up on June 25 was something of an anomaly for this time of year, with a couple of records being broken and the overall times rating some 4 to 6 lengths above the meetings run either side.
There’s no doubt the quality of cattle is a lot higher up north come July/August, but this small but select field is all bar one horse, a locals only affair and you simply could not have found a better run against the pattern than what the Tommy Logan trained Better Than Ready mare produced last start.
You’d also go a long way to find a trainer with a better strike rate than the now Territory based T Logan, and I doubt there’s a rider in the country on a better form streak than the former NSW Mid-North Coast based hoop Adam Nicholls.
Nicholls bagged a double last week including the feature Guineas, on the back of a treble the week prior and he teams up with Logan here for a mount that maps to get the gun 1/1 slot off an always ensured solid tempo in Darwin.
She’s been a revelation since joining the Logan yard, with her only defeat from four starts coming at her last outing which was off a two month let up. Expect she will finish over the top of them here and bounce right back into the winner’s stall.

Randwick, Race 8 – 12. Jojo Was a Man ($5.00)
Not a huge fan of the cavalier tactics on Taksu even though they got away with them, but I think Schofield’s record over the past few years is testament to the fact that they are going to fail more often than not these days.
I’ve always had an opinion of Oscar Zulu but I thought he was flattered by the way the race was run which leaves this race wide open. And what a cracking race it is.
It’s too short for a couple, and there’s a few that don’t go in the wet, and once you finish with the red pen, it really just leaves this bloke.
He’s 3 from 4 this time in, hard fit, winner on the heavy, undefeated under Reece Jones, undefeated at the track and distance, drops in weight and has done it easing up his past two.
He’s ready for stakes grade.

Darwin, Race 6 – 6. Playoffs (TBA)
Chief Minister’s Cup day at Fannie Bay which traditionally serves as a good guide for the Group 3 Darwin Cup to be run on the first Monday in August and there is no doubt this horse is in town with that target specifically in mind.
Whilst plenty get sent to Darwin in an effort to recapture their old form, this bloke would only need to maintain the level he was at to be winning this, and quite possibly the local feature in a little under four weeks time and they certainly don’t lose anything going to Gary Clarke no matter which trainer they have previously come from.
Always some query on the dirt the first time but with just the seven runners and a decent draw it is hard to imagine he’ll be buried behind a wall of horses eating kick back. His record suggests he loves the firm tracks, and it also tells us he is sharp enough to win over the mile.
Will no doubt relish the step to 2000m once he gets there on the main day but I’m certain they’ll also be wanting to claim this handy cheque along the way and bag a confidence boosting win given he is in town on a hit and run mission.
Punters might have to wait a while for this one but he can close out your Saturday as a winner.
