We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, July 23, and provided our best horse racing tips.
If there is one track that has stood up to the car crash in slow motion that is 2022 it has been Royal Randwick, which defied not only the laws of Mother Nature, global warming, gravity, and common sense to still stage an Autumn carnival. Now, in the depths of winter and with no reprieve in sight, we find ourselves in the rarely chartered territory of the 12 metre rail for a Saturday metro meeting.
Under normal circumstances this would be a massive red flag for punters, but 2022 is anything but normal and if nothing else, the proactive decision to head to higher ground with an ominous forecast is one that should be congratulated by the punting fraternity.
Whether or not it is the right move, only time will tell, but we will live and die by their sword this week with four of our selections coming out of Sydney racing HQ.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, July 23.
Randwick, Race 4 – 2. Rocketing By ($4.40)
Really liked what I saw of him early on, then he seemed to lose his way when a stable change was thrust upon him in rather trivial circumstances. No slight on Matt Dunn there who is proven to be a high quality horseman, but it is never ideal picking up a horse mid prep, particularly a juvenile, and I’ve really liked the way Group 1 winning trainer Dave Pfieffer has gone about getting back to business since his return.
Hard to believe they are giving away Saturday prize money for this. It is a very low race. And he simply only has one horse to beat, that being the Maher/Eustace galloper Easy Single. He’s been luckless his past two, and whilst his record is good, he is a horse that they have struggled to keep the racing up to with just 11 starts to date and some long breaks between starts which implies some element of risk.
So more than happy to go with Rocketing By who had a solid spell then came out and produced two absolutely cracking trials.
No each way betting here, so back this fellow the win, and save on the quinella.

Randwick, Race 5 – 8. The Milky Bar Kid ($2.25)
If you have any concerns about punting on a track with a +12m rail then they should be alleviated here.
If ever there was a horse built to prototype to be the cash cow of the winter of 2022 then this is it.
Bred to eat mud, bred to stay all day, Waterhouse bone ‘n’ muscle on-pacer.
Probably some query that the two horse race hit out he had at ‘The Farm’ last start was not the ideal pipe opener for a foray into Saturday grade, but it was not just because they were trying to dodge a wet track that the opposition scratched from that affair.
This is a pretty handy stayer, and I’m fairly confident that by the time the flowers start to bloom again, we are going to think quite highly of this fellow. Whether he stands up to the rigours of the Spring this time around is another hurdle again, but my guess is he will have plenty in the bank by then, including this winners cheque.

8. The Milky Bar Kid ($2.25)
Randwick, Race 7 – 2. Waihaha Falls ($1.55)
Showed glimpses of ability last campaign but his feet have barely touched the ground this prep, he is that airbourne at the minute.
A combined margin of close to 8L’s for his two wins this time in, he is racing right up to not only his breeding, but his potential as well.
Relishing these conditions, stays in the same grade and steps up just the 100m to 1300m. Might be a while before the handicapper catches up with him yet as he picks off these benchmark races.

Randwick, Race 8 – 12. Jojo Was a Man ($2.90)
A tragedy beaten last start when he was our best of the day but there seems no reason to jump off here.
He got through the ground that day. Reece Jones stays aboard, he draws soft and I don’t mind him coming back in trip as he is deep into a campaign in which he’s had a couple of tough runs.
Is well and truly ready to break through at Stakes grade.

Caulfield, Race 8 – 10. Mariamia ($7.00/$2.35)
Loomed as the winner last start, looking set to run down stablemate, the promising Taksu, before peaking on her run late.
Comes back to her pet trip of 1200m here, and still gets a likeable surface compared to what she would have copped back home in Sydney.
Drawn a little bit sticky which is reflected in the price but that is negated by the small field and the fact Jamie Kah is booked to steer.
A promising mare who has had a freshen up before the trip south where she looks to add a black type race to her resume.
