Overwhelmed?

Overwhelmed?

We'll message you the best tips for today!

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, January 8, and provided our best horse racing tips.

An untimely big wet is causing havoc with holiday makers and racing bodies alike as inclement weather ravages some of the country’s most popular new year vacation destinations and looks to threaten the start of the Magic Millions racing carnival.

Some quality features on the card there, and whilst we have included those races in some of our selections, we have scoured the remainder of meetings to ensure we can find you some winners this Saturday.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, January 8.

Rosehill, Race 2 – 3. Overlord ($5.50)

Why not?

Up until a fortnight ago he had the cruel tag of the ‘best maiden in the country’, now he has broken that duck, let’s look at his form realistically.

In his 8 starts he’s managed a Group 3 placing, run 4th in a Group 1 he probably should have gone close to winning, and twice ran second to Group 2 winner Peltzer.

One of those was on a heavy and his only other start on a heavy track was his latest where he won in impressive style.

Line that up with the fact he only takes on limited benchmark horses here, and he looks massive overs.

Gold Coast, Race 3 – 8. Hell I Am ($2.90)

This Hellbent colt was thrown in the deep end on debut in the Wyong Magic Millions 2yo Classic and arguably should have won or at least ran 2nd.

Some bad luck, some bad steering, and some inexperience all factored together there to give a false result on the form page.

The Neesham colt has had a couple of cracks but can’t quite deliver, albeit around nice horses, and the form behind Stupendous didn’t stack up last week.

Hell I Am looks the one and Rawiller for Bowman is a big plus in my books at the moment.

Wyong, Race 3 – 4. Fielding ($3.30)

Always keep an eye out when this pairing gets together as they have an excellent strike rate.

The draw is not ideal but this Deep Field gelding got a good look at the outskirts of the Wyong course proper when he bolted in during a recent trial. He ran the second fastest time of the morning that day, going to the line untouched, and with a heavy track almost certain, we are tipping they will be looking for the better ground out wide even by race 3.

Not a lot in this but they will look to the Ryan/Alexiou runners and you should get a price about this bloke.

Rosehill, Race 8 – 5. Criaderas ($3.90)

*This horse has since been scratched.*

His past couple have been excellent but he does really need this.

His only run on the heavy to date was in Colette’s 2020 Golden Eagle and he was beaten less than 4L on that occasion. His breeding certainly suggests he should get through it.

A tough enough assignment but I think he is up to it and heading in the right direction now they have finally got him over a bit of ground.

Gold Coast, Race 7 – 3. Love Tap ($6.50)

A fairly average field here for a quarter of a million dollar race, that said, we think there’s only one horse that could get within 4L of I’m Thunderstruck and the form guide tells us Love Tap is the one here.

The normally free striding grey was ridden conservatively from the inside draw that day and got keen in transit at times but still held his ground to the line in what was a quality Golden Eagle field.

His form since then has been good with plenty of winners popping up around Mightybeel and Purple Sector running well again out of the Oscar Zulu race.

Winner on the heavy and at 1800m and links up again with Nash. A lot to like.

Best Bet – 3. Overlord (Rosehill, Race 2)
Next Best – 5. Criaderas (Rosehill, Race 8)
Best Roughie – 4. Fielding (Wyong, Race 3)
