We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, January 22, and provided our best horse racing tips.
We come crashing back to earth this week after the fun, festivities, high stakes and big spending of the week that is the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast.
Just the one stakes race across the major states but handy enough fields where there looks to be good value if we can land on the right mark.
We have made five selections in total and are very confident in four of those selections whilst we think our best roughie of the day represents excellent value at juicy odds. So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, January 22.
Randwick, Race 1 – 3. Subterranean ($8.50)
A cracking race to start off the Sydney card with form lines coming from all over the place.
A couple of bush horses building impressive records have the fitness edge whilst the rest of the field resumes and we are looking to one of them, out of some handy 3yo middle distance races to get us off to a flying start here at close to double figure odds.
The pairing of Dunn and Rawiller is proving to be a lethal combo and has served us well in recent times and we think this son of Rebel Dane represents value in an open race here.
Nash Rawiller has been a force to be reckoned with throughout his Queensland sojourn over the last month, and caps it off with a brilliant ride for the @SnowdenRacing1 team aboard King Of Sparta to claim the @mmsnippets 3YO Guineas! #QLDisRacing 🏇 pic.twitter.com/ukcPdQXTLR

The two paired up to win the Group 3 Ken Russell Classic on this horse as a 2yo before he ran into some smart gallopers working his way through the 3yo black type races.
His 5th in the J.J. Atkins is a fair indication of his quality and forget he went around in the Dulcify toward the end of last prep.
His recent trial was good and the runner up out of it has subsequently ran a close 3rd in a million dollar race at the Gold Coast last week. Trialled without the blinkers but they look like they are staying on for the first up tilt which tells us they mean business.
Moonee Valley, Race 1 – 5. Duchy of Savoy ($2.50)
An out and out race in two here and we are leaning to the filly over the colt.
The Freedman colt Unflinching has been super impressive winning his first two starts, his latest around ‘The Valley’. On both occasions he has given nothing else a look in, jumping straight to the front and whilst that is usually a recipe for success around the tight inner city Melbourne circuit, Duchy of Savoy served us well when winning resuming when we declared her one of the best of the day, so we are going to stick with her again here.
She won by 3.5L that day under hands and heels riding which justified the decision by Team Hawkes to try her in Stakes company last prep. She was able to camp off the speed in that affair before really putting them to bed when asked the question at the 200m down the long run home at Sandown.
She draws inside the favourite, and we anticipate her being tucked in behind the pace whilst there looks enough speed on paper of the long shots that they might just provide nuisance value to the favourite and allow her to pounce late.
Has a class edge on exposed form, couldn’t have been more impressive last start, maps perfectly and is the better odds of the clear two top elects.
Kembla Grange, Race 2 – 7. Eye Pea Oh ($4.50)
We thought enough of her to have her in our top 5 selections last week however the meeting fell over because of inclement weather.
She probably strikes a harder race here but no doubt has an extra gallop under her belt and as we opined last week, her trials have been faultless.
One of the state’s leading provincial riders to steer in Grant Buckley, she gets a good draw and whilst the track will still be rain affected, she is out of a Pins mare which is a double tick on tough going.
Randwick, Race 8 – 2. Purple Sector ($7.00)
We are going to give Purple Sector one more go here.
It is hard to go past the fact his place strike rate is double that of his win ratio, but he has had genuine excuses for his two seconds this time in.
An outrageous slaughter job by Bowman first up when we declared him our best roughie of the day at 20/1. He should have won that with a leg in the air, then dwelt and bustled by the apprentice rider at his latest start to sit outside the lead before being pounced upon late by Kirwan’s Lane who made it back to back wins and is in close to career best form.

They’ve gone back to Hughy here and it is hard to see a rider of his quality repeating the same misdeed twice, especially from a good draw.
The favourite, Through the Cracks, steps up in trip to 1400m after a long time off, whilst Purple Sector comes back in distance 3rd up after two very sound efforts which tells us he is the better value of the two and you will generally finish in front if you can find the overs.
Randwick, Race 9 – 9. Wairere Falls ($8.50)
Looking to cap off a big day with a value winner in the second last at Sydney headquarters.
We really liked the way this guy progressed through the winter and whilst second up isn’t his pattern, he has never landed on a mile this early in his campaign.
He’s also never been a great trialler but was given two hitouts leading into this prep and looked very forward in his second outing.
Did enough first up to tell us he is right in this, gets a weight pull off favourite Yiyi, handles all going, drawn well and gets the services of Berry.
Best Bet – 9. Wairere Falls (Randwick, Race 9)
Next Best – 5. Duchy of Savoy (Moonee Valley, Race 1)
Best Roughie – 3. Subterranean (Randwick, Race 1)
