Overwhelmed?

We'll message you the best tips for today!

We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, April 9, and provided our best horse racing tips.

There will be plenty who will try and warn you against such things as ‘putting all your eggs in one basket’. Which is well and good for someone to say who has never had to study the form for day 2 of The Championships of the Sydney Autumn carnival which is to be run on Saturday on a Heavy 10 with 100 plus millimeters of rain forecast.

But the reality is, if you’re a punter with a pulse, then the Royal Randwick Day 2 card is simply too good to say ‘no’ to. In the end we’ve come up with four selections there, and as insurance we’ve scouted far and wide to try and find you another in case it all falls apart for the folks at the Australian Turf Club on account of the run of absolutely horrendous Sydney weather.

We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, April 9.

Randwick, Race 2 – 6. Cape Breton ($26/$6.00)

Ridden to the pattern of the day at Canberra, against his preferred racing style, but it didn’t suit and the proof was in the result.

He was the best horse in the race that day, like he showed when he smoked them first up, after an injury plagued prior preparation.

He proved his worth his first time in when they thought enough of him to send him north for a crack at the G1 J. J. Atkins.

Hasn’t seen a heavy, but his soft track stats are very good.

Well drawn, certainly of the right quality, and gets C Williams. Silly odds!

Randwick, Race 5 – 6. Mazu ($3.90)

This is a good horse’s race… and this is a very good horse.

He’s whittling away at the races the likes of Redzel and Classique Legend targeted, and the aforementioned came from the same barn, whilst the latter came from the barn next door.

Plenty of hype around Shelby Sixty Six has been flattered by some unprecedented track conditions, but start a G1 sprint over the next year or so on even terms and I’d be very surprised if this bloke isn’t in the call home over the last 50m.

Exceptional talent who loves these tracks and goes just as well with the floor beneath him. Future star.

Randwick, Race 6 – 2. Gypsy Goddess ($4.00)

To say it was a very quiet ride last start would be to put it mildly. But for anyone who has seen her race up north, and still had a few queries as to whether or not she was of the right quality to win a Group 1 Oaks in Sydney, the run ticked a lot of boxes.

Clearly going to get through the ground, clearly going to run the mile and a half and clearly up to this level of opposition.

She’s looked a live Oaks hope for some time and we think it will all come to fruition on Saturday.

Randwick, Race 7 – 3. Knights Order ($10/$3.30)

There’s going to be some tired horses after this one.

An absolute slogfest two mile Group 1 handicap run on a Heavy 10, but there are few, if any better in the business at getting them rock hard fit for such an arduous task than Gai Waterhouse.

This is run in her backyard, and this gritty on-pacer is typical of the barn’s trademark ‘bone ‘n’ muscle’ approach.

Already a Group 2 winner at two mile, gets to this hard fit once again, and has landed one of the better riders at the fly weights of the handicap conditions of the race.

Plenty to like here, including the price.

Ascot, Race 8 – 1. Trix of the Trade ($2.50)

It is going to be a long wait for our only other pick outside of the Sydney meeting, especially if the weather God’s aren’t shining on us, but we think it will be worth it.

Every bit a classic Derby trial at his latest hitout when he hit the line strongly from last over the 2200m. Showed plenty of zip to win over shorter trips early on in his campaign and looks trained to the minute for the Group 2 W.A. Derby which all being well should be run on a Good rated track.

Best Bet – 2. Gypsy Goddess (Randwick, Race 6)
Next Best – 6. Mazu (Randwick, Race 5)
Best Roughie – 6. Cape Breton (Randwick, Race 2)
