We have studied the form from all races across the country for Saturday, April 16, and provided our best horse racing tips.
It’s hard to believe Easter is upon us and it’s already the final week of the Sydney Autumn Carnival. Whilst All Aged Stakes day marks the end of the festivities at Royal Randwick, the Autumn Carnival is the gift that keeps on giving with feature meets scheduled for Hawkesbury and Gosford over the coming weeks.
But for now we have a quality card of black type racing to contend with at Randwick as well as a solid Caulfield meeting on a good track.
We have made five selections in total and are confident that we have found you some winners! So, read on below to find our best horse racing tips for this Saturday, April 16.
Randwick, Race 1 – 6. Lucky Sham ($34/$8.50)
We are looking to cover all expenses incurred across the Easter break here with our ‘best roughie’ of the day play to kick off the Randwick card.
There was a time not so long ago when R N Godbolt was the states leading country trainer. And whilst he may have reduced his numbers these days, he certainly hasn’t lost any of his ability to train a winner. His specialty has always been picking up cast offs, sorting out their issues, improving them and that looks to be the case here.
This Shamexpress mare has had just the four starts for two wins for the barn. Of the other two runs, one was run in blinding rain, and the other was just a hopeless ride. This is certainly the hardest race she has been in, but she charged through the line strongly at her latest win so 1200m poses no issues and appears to be a horse on the up. No wins on the heavy but she is 2 from 4 on the soft and the forecast looks positive.
Worth an each way ticket.
Randwick, Race 4 – 1. Let’srollthedice ($12/$3.70)
Let’s roll the dice, indeed. We took on the fillies out of the slipper last start and got it wrong but this colt was far from disgraced.
Although the winner was far too brilliant, this fellow was set a decent task and he had lost sight of her before he got balanced up, his first look at the Sydney way of going.
He did it with Inspirational Girl last week for @DOBrienRacing, this week it was a brilliant win aboard Let’srollthedice for @LaneDamian 👊 pic.twitter.com/XXV1TDEre1

You are still going to be banking on the fillies not getting the mile and/or having gone to the well once too often.
I think we can beat She’s Extreme home, the other filly is going to be very problematic, but she needs to be able to produce that brilliance again at the end of a mile race, and at the end of a very tough preparation.
So let’s roll the dice!
Randwick, Race 5 – 2. Espiona ($1.80)
She entered the carnival as the boom horse and we are hoping, much like the Spring, she exits in the same way.
Far from disgraced first up, then solid from too far back second up and just in the wrong part of the track her latest.
Whilst the gloss has gone off her a little bit, she’s going to be too good for this lot.
Randwick, Race 6 – 7. Quantico ($10/$2.35)
*This horse has since been scratched.*
Think this is the fourth or fifth time we have tipped him, but he’s lined up just the once this Autumn.
There’s no doubt his preparation has been hampered by the inclement weather but I’m certain he has a good race in him, most likely better than what he meets here.
“When his runs are spaced he’s been able to perform at his best so I like this set up.”

Liked the way he trialed recently when finding the line strongly under his own steam. That would indicate he has been kept up to the mark on the training track, and it is fair to expect the Randwick track to play to a similar pattern after copping a brutal beating over the last couple of months.
Has a bit of x factor about him and well worth thought at the odds.
Caulfield, Race 5 – 2. Najmaty ($6.00/$2.25)
Putting our faith in the enigmatic Najmaty here.
This filly has proven very hard to catch after showing a world of promise but she is hard to resist off her two recent trials.
Worked through the field and found the line strongly in sharp time under urgings at her first hitout. Then wound up strongly again in a very strong trial at her most recent effort.
She is a winner here, both her wins have been on a good track, and she races best fresh. She does owe us a bit, but we can get some of it back here.
Best Bet – 2. Espiona (Randwick, Race 5)
Next Best – 2. Najmaty (Caulfield, Race 5)
Best Roughie – 6. Lucky Sham (Randwick, Race 1)
