We'll message you the best tips for today!

The 1,300m Silver Eagle is set to take place this Saturday, 9th of October at Randwick Racecourse. There is a field exclusively 4 year olds and there are 14 runners, plus one emergency ready to do battle. The winner, 2nd and 3rd placed horses of the Silver Eagle get an exemption from the ballot for the Golden Eagle. The Golden Eagle is set to take place at the end of the month, with a mammoth amount of prizemoney available, $7.5 million to be exact! So, there is a lot to play for here!

Have a read below at our runner-by-runner preview for the Silver Eagle:

1. Our Playboy (15) – Scratched

2. Exoboom (2) – $14
Jockey – Sam Clipperton
Trainer – Peter & Paul Snowden

Yet to be tested even at Group 2 level, and was slightly off the pace in last start at Randwick on a soft track. Tends to be better second up, but not too sure Exoboom has got the goods to win this race with the other quality runners. Happy to give a miss.

3. Prime Star  (14) – $17
Jockey – Glen Boss
Trainer – Richard & Michael Freedman

Finished 5th in last start, and was fading at the end of the race, which was 1,400m. Has only won at 1,100m, so not sure if the 1,300m will  be suitable. Nine attempts at Randwick, with no wins to Prime Star’s name. Look elsewhere.

4. Amish Boy (13) – $7.50
Jockey – James McDonald
Trainer – Ciaron Maher & David Eustace

Finished 9th in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes last start, but has placed at Group 1 level before, at the Newmarket Handicap in March. The tempo should suit Amish Boy, and could be right in this.

5. Aim (7) – $27
Jockey – Hugh Bowman
Trainer – Peter & Paul Snowden

Returns from a 19 week spell, but after watching Aim in trials, there is certainly some potential here. Has won three times in total throughout career. Think there are better runners in the Silver Eagle to choose from.

6. Ellsberg (6) – $6.00F
Jockey – Joshua Parr
Trainer – Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou

Liking the look of this horse, solid barrier and will likely look to lead, or take a good position to strike just when the time is right. Currently in a three way tie for favorite, and Ellsberg has a good strike rate when starting as favourite, winning three of six. Won last start at Rosehill (1,400m), think Ellsberg is a serious player.

7. Triple Ace (12) – $18
Jockey – Alysha Collett
Trainer – Kris Lees

Last four races have seen Triple Ace finish first twice, and second twice. So certainly cannot be looked over and has come in slightly in the odds, but this is going to be a step up in quality and don’t think this is a race Triple Ace can win.

8. Count De Rupee (8) – $6.00F
Jockey – Regan Bayliss
Trainer – Robert & Luke Price

He won first up at Kembla Grange about a month ago in very nice fashion indeed, so probably deserves to be the equal favourite. The trainers are really happy with how he is going at the moment and they are also happy with the barrier he has drawn. Actually has a better strike rate as favourite compared to Ellsberg, and has won all races where he starts as favourite. Will be right up there.

9. Tramonto (11) – $41
Jockey – Andrew Adkins
Trainer – Jonny Field

Drifting in the odds and currently has the longest odds to win the Silver Eagle. Will need a lot of things to go the 4 year olds way in order to have a chance to win the race. There are plenty of others in the field who have a better shot at winning the race.

10. Blondeau (9) – $16
Jockey – Jason Collett
Trainer – Chris Waller

Had placed at Group 2 level, and last win was 11 weeks ago. Came second last start, at a BM88, and will likely enjoy the tempo, however the rise in distance is slightly questionable. Give this one a miss.

11. Equation (4) – $6.00
Jockey – Tommy Berry
Trainer – Annabel Neasham

Odds have shortened and now stands as one of the three favourites for this race. Hasn’t been tested at Group level at all, and this field may be too difficult to overcome. In saying that, Equation has won three of four attempts in the current campaign, so will have a lot of confidence going into this one. Must be considered for a place chance.

12. High Supremacy (NZ) (1) – $12
Jockey – Nash Rawiller
Trainer – Richard & Michael Freedman

Won last start at BM78, and has two placings at Group 3 level. Will need things to go according to plan, but certainly in with a chance for this one. High Supremacy will enjoy the tempo and could be difficult to stop if the space opens up down the straight.

13. Sammy (10) – $26
Jockey – Kerrin McEvoy
Trainer – Kris Lees

Seems like Sammy loves the Newcastle track, and has won last two starts there. Has got good form coming into this race, and odds have come in. Pop in your exotics, and Sammy presents good value!

14. Vangelic (5) – $6.50
Jockey – Tim Clark
Trainer – Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott

Probably one of the most experienced horses when it comes to Group level, and has competed in 11 Group races, and placed in five of them. Also has seen odds come in, and think is a genuine chance to win this race. Vangelic will look to lead, and I think there are only a few horses in this race that have the ability to catch Vangelic. Strong win chance.

15e. Kiku (3) – Scratched

Final Word

Well, this race making things tricky for punters as it is a really open race, and there are currently three equal favourites! Majority of the runners in the Silver Eagle have a genuine chance of winning this race. But at the end of the day, I think Vangelic will be too good for the rest of them. The experience and speed will ensure that Vangelic keeps all others in the field at bay.

Best Flight Stakes Tip: Vangelic – Win ($6.50)
