A rock solid field littered with stars has been assembled to contest the 2020 VRC Sprint Classic (1200m) at Flemington, with five of the field of 10 coming out of The Everest (1200m).

Let’s cast our eye over each and every runner for a big Stakes Day fill up…

1 – Santa Ana Lane – $9.50 ??

Ran on well late to finish sixth in The Everest. Won this race in 2018 when the run prior he finished … sixth in The Everest. History could certainly repeat itself and is a knockout chance at close to double figure odds. Must go in all exotics.

2 – Nature Strip – $4.20 ?

Has an outstanding record down the straight at Flemington and if he’s at his best, it’s very hard to see him being beaten. We’ve been saying that all preparation, and it doesn’t look like he’s close to winding back the clock. Happy to be against him again here.

3 – Bivouac – $3.90 ???

Another who relishes the Flemington straight, Bivouac did a stack of work fresh in The Shorts to place before flashing home in The Everest. Looks set to peak here third up and looks ready to win, should find some cover and blend nicely into the race. Looks tough to beat.

4 – Hey Doc – $11

Had an outstanding win in the Manikato Stakes at double figures (tipped in our Manikato Stakes Runner By Runner Preview!) but may have peaked for the preparation. Is honest as the day is long, but looks to be running into a few with too much talent here.

5 – Graff – $17

Emerged from the wilderness when winning the Caulfield Sprint last start but he’s been thrown into the deep end here. Looks like he prefers the soft going and the jury is out on a strong 1200m. Price looks about right.

6 – Zoutori – $11 ??

Outstanding straight track horse who is searching for a hattrick of Flemington 1200m wins this preparation. Loves the Good surface and looks to be at a nice price to throw into exotics.

7 – Standout – $34 ?

Hasn’t quite looked up to the task against the A Graders in Sydney so far, and runs into a fair few of them here. Price tells the tale but could be thrown into wider exotics.

8 – Tofane – $15

Was unlucky here first up and had a tough time in The Everest. Should improve but would need to lift several levels to be competitive.

9 – Libertini – $7.50 ???

Outstanding first up in the Premiere Stakes and ran well enough in The Everest, and has had a sneaky little trial since then to keep her ticking over. Looks a massive chance and should find a nice sit behind the speed in the straight before D Oliver picks his moment. Massive chance.

10 – Fabergino – $20

Will be suited by the return to dry ground and has won here before, but I’m not convinced by her against the absolute top tier sprinters and by her ability at the 1200m.

Tip: 3-9-6-1
