Some talented fillies going around in the first of the Group 1s in Sydney on a big Epsom Stakes Day, with very little splitting the top two… let’s take a look at each of the runners contesting this year’s Group 1 Flight Stakes.
1 – Dame Giselle – $2.75 ???
Has been faultless this preparation with a hattrick of wins, beating home Hungry Heart over the 1200m and the 1400m in their last two outings. Has a superior turn of foot to her rival that allows her to win off a slower speed, and I wouldn’t be talking you out of backing her again.

2 – Hungry Heart – $2.45 ???
Takes a while to wind up and found trouble in the run last start. Has always been looking for a mile, and now has fellow Waller runner Joviality in the race to inject more pace in the race which will suit. I think she may just have enough going her way to turn the tables, but it’s going to be very close.
3 – Vangelic – $13
Will be put into the race and should lead from Joviality, and could hold on for a place if everything goes right.
4 – Montefilia – $9 ??
Ran really well first up in the Tea Rose Stakes and the step up to the mile will definitely suit her. May be looking for longer, but I think she’s a good chance at running a hole and possibly causing a big upset.
5 – Joviality – $13
Stepping up to face the A grade Sydney fillies now, and it looks tough. She’ll go forward but would need everything to go right.
6 – Miravalle – $16 ?
Never had a chance in the Tea Rose after some interference and thought she ran home okay. May head to Melbourne for the Oaks and will be worth following.
7 – Alighted – $301
The price says it all, would need to sprout wings to have a chance.
Tip: 2-1-4-6 – Though I wouldn’t talk you out of either of the top two!
