The Macca’s Run is a 2800m race held at Flemington Racecourse in Victoria. The handicap has a prize pool of $135,000 and in 2020 it will be run on Melbourne Cup day, which is Tuesday, November 3.

Shared Ambition won the 2019 edition of The Macca’s Run, racing home as a $1.50 favourite. Credence ran second for the Hayes, Hayes and Dabernig stable, while Big Blue rounded out the placings in third. After claiming victory, Shared Ambition took no further part in the spring, however, in 2020 he finished mid-field in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile.

Chris Waller-trained the 2019 winner of The Macca’s Run and overall it was a good Melbourne Cup day for the champion trainer. Although he didn’t salute in the marquee race, he trained three winners on the day, claiming victory with Sure Knee, Shared Ambition and Yulong Prince. Finche was his best runner in the Melbourne Cup, finishing seventh, 1.4 lengths behind the winner Vow And Declare.

Shared Ambition won the 2019 Macca’s Run in 2:57.48, which was over five seconds slower than the 2800 Flemington track record. That belongs to Verdant, who in 2012 ran 2:52.40.
