The Sale Cup is a Listed 1600m race held at Sale Racecourse in Victoria. The handicap has a total prize pool of $200,000 and in 2020 will be run on Sunday, October 25.

Gold Fields won the Sale Cup in 2019 for the Logan McGill stable. He beat out a solid field that included Mandela Effect, Rox The Castle and Fastnet Tempest. After saluting in the race, Gold Fields won the Group 3 Sandown Stakes.

Some strong horses have won the Sale Cup over the years, including 2014 winner Sonntag and 2017 victory Moss ‘n’ Dale. Sonntag is a Group 1 winner, having crossed the line first in the 2014 Queensland Derby.

In 2019, Gold Fields clocked 1:38.20 to win the Sale Cup. The fastest time in the race over the last five years belongs to Doubt Defying, who ran an impressive 1:35.56 to claim victory in 2018. It was less than a second behind the 1600m track record which belongs to Zaparri (1:34.60).
