The Exford Plate $140,000 Listed race held at Flemington Racecourse in Victoria. It is run over 1400m, has set weights plus penalties and is for three-year-old horses. In 2020 the race will be run on Saturday, September 12, the same day as the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes.
Legionnaire surprised many by winning the 2019 edition of the Exford Plate. Snap Dance and Tenley made up the placings, both finishing less than half a length behind the winner. After winning the Exford Playe, Legionnaire went on to finish fourth in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes.
Racing Sharks VIP Tips Package:
The first running of the Exford Plate was in 2009, with Craig Williams guiding Carrara to victory. Since then some decent horses have claimed victory, including Bon Aurum and Brutal.
Jockey Dwayne Dunn has had some solid success in the Exford Plate in recent years, winning twice in the last three years. In 2018 he was on board Brutal and in 2017 he rode Royal Symphony to victory.
In 2019, Legionnaire ran a solid 1:22.45 to win the Exford Plate, however, the fastest time in the race belongs to Merion. In 2014, Merion clocked 1:22.38 to win the race but it was still a long way off the 1400m Flemington course record which is 1:20.60.
