The Northwood Plume Stakes is a 1200m Group 3 race held at Caulfield Racecourse. It is for mares aged four and older and has a prize pool of $160,000. The race has set weights and penalties and in 2020 will be run on Saturday, October 10, which is the same day as the Caulfield Stakes, Caulfield Guineas, Thousand Guineas and Toorak Handicap.

Dwayne Dunn guided Tofane to victory in the 2019 edition of the Northwood Plume Stakes, with Manicure and Sweet Scandal finishing second and third respectively. Tofane won another Group 3 in the spring and then in 2020 won the All Aged Stakes ahead of the likes of Pierata, Super Seth and Santa Ana Lane.

The race takes its name from star horse Northwood Plume who in 1994 won both the Thousand Guineas and the VRC Oaks. Crimson Reign won the first edition of the race in 2005, however it has only been classed as a Group 3 since 2013.

No trainer has really dominated the race over the years, however, jockey Dwayne Dunn has experienced decent success in the Northwood Plume Stakes in recent times. He was on board Tofane in 2019 and in 2014 guided Griante to victory.

Tofane’s 2019 time of 1:09.09 in the Northwood Plume Stakes came close to being the fastest the race has seen but that honour is shared between Sheidel and Our Lona. Both runners clocked 1:09.04 when they claimed their respective victories.
