The How Now Stakes is a 1200m Group 3 race for mares aged four years and older which is held at Caulfield Racecourse. It is raced with set weights and penalties and has a total prize pool of $160,000.
In 2019 the James Cummings-trained Manicure claimed victory in the How Now Stakes, beating out Angelic Ruler and Dawn Dawn. Manicure failed to win another race in the spring, but earlier in 2020 competed in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes.

The How Now Stakes is named after the filly of the same name who won the Underwood Stakes back in 1976. The race was first run as the Cranbourne Daihatsu Stakes and was won by Snippets’ Lass. No horse has ever won the How Now Stakes in consecutive years, however in 2005, there was a dead heat between Sarah Michelle and Brindabella.
Last year’s winner Manicure won in 1:10.41 with Rachel King on board. However, it is Lovely Jubly that holds the fastest race time of the last 20 years, clocking 1:09.01 in 2003.
