The Ethereal Stakes is a 2000m Group 3 race held at Caulfield Racecourse in Victoria. It has set weights with penalties and a total prize pool of $200,000. In 2020, the Ethereal Stakes will be run on Saturday, October 17, the same day as the Group 1 Caulfield Cup.
Declan Bates won the 2019 edition of the Ethereal Stakes on board the Archie Alexander-trained Gamay. Vegas Jewel finished less than half a length behind in second, while Celestial Falls ran third. After winning the race, Gamay ran fifth in the Group 1 Kennedy Oaks.

Jockey Nick Hall, who retired in 2018, had a great run the in Ethereal Stakes, winning it three times between 2010 and 2014. Since then no jockey or trainer has been able to establish consistent success.
The Ethereal Stakes has had some notable winners, with the most recent of the lot being Verry Elleegant. The champion mare won the race in 2018 and then later in the season went on to win both the Vinery Stud Stakes and Australian Oaks.
Gamay clocked 2:04.42 to claim victory in the Ethereal Stakes in 2019, which was a decent time but not the fastest the race has seen over the last decade. That honour belongs to Pinot, who ran 2:02.71 in 2017.
