The Stock Stakes is a $200,000 Group 2 weight-for-age race that takes place at Moonee Valley Racing Club. The race is for mares four and older and is raced over 1600m.

In 2020 the Stock Stakes will take place on Saturday, September 25, which is the same night as the Group 1 Moir Stakes.

Princess Jenni won the 2019 edition of the race, beating out Rondinella and Oceanex in a tight race. It was a great result for punters as Princess Jenni was the favourite heading into the race, with second-favourite Miss Siska finishing seventh. She went on to race in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap but struggled.

The Stocks Stakes was originally run as the Dallas Handicap and the first race in 1973 was won by Mellition. Since then the likes of Atlantic Jewel and I Am A Star have won the race, with the latter being the only runner to win it in consecutive years.

In 2019 Princess Jenni won the Stock Stakes in 1:36.32. Although it’s a decent time around the Moonee Valley 1600m, Fenway holds the fastest time in the race over the past 20 years. In 2015 the Lee and Shannon Hope-trained runner clocked 1:34.98, which is only around half a second slower than Lubiton’s track record.
