    Vinery Stud Stakes Introduction

The Vinery Stud Stakes is a Group 1 race which takes place each year in March. The race in 2023 will be held on Saturday 25th of March at Rosehill Racecourse. Looking back to the race in 2022, it was won by Fangirl.

Registered as the Storm Queen Stakes, the Vinery Stud Stakes is a 2000m for three year old fillies and forms an integral part of the Autumn programming for fillies heading to the ATC Oaks.

The race has been sponsored by Vinery Stud since 2009. It was first run in 1979 where it was run over 1900m. The year after it was changed to 2000m where it has remained ever since and the race has exclusively been run at Rosehill.

The Vinery Stud Stakes achieved Group 1 status in 1993.

The 2022 edition of the Vinery Stud Stakes was a little bit different to the others. The race was actually held at Newcastle Racecourse on the Monday after the scheduled time. This was because the meeting was called off at Rosehill Racecourse after the first three races, due to the heavy rain that Sydney had been experiencing in the lead up to the race.

    Vinery Stud Stakes Betting 2022

There are a lot of important factors to consider before betting on the Vinery Stud Stakes. Make sure you have a read on below before you place your bets:

Is Previous Vinery Stud Stakes Form a Good Indicator of Future Success?

Being an age restricted race it has thrown up a mixed bag of results over the years, all subjective to the talent of the three year old crop in that respective year.

Whilst the race has thrown up some real champions such as Research, Miss Finland and Verry Elleegant, there have also been a number of winners that have failed to win another race.

Should I Bet On The Favourite in the Vinery Stud Stakes?

Favourites have a very good record in the race having won six times since 2011. However it is also interesting to note that in that time there have been a couple of long priced winners as well including Fenway ($21) and Murjilisa Lass ($51).

    Formlines from Lead Up Races

Many of the fillies take on the older mares in the rich Coolmore Classic which is a Group 1 run over 1500m the fortnight prior, whilst the traditional lead up for horses staying competing against their own age and sex is the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic run on a Friday, 15 days prior to the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Whilst claiming the double in either of these races has proven hard to come by, horses that have placed or run well in these races feature prominently among the list of Vinery Stud Stakes winners.

    Age

The race is for three year old fillies.

    Weight

The Vinery Stud Stakes is run at set weights.

    Gender

It is open only to three year old fillies.

    Vinery Stud Stakes Odds 2022

Before the Vinery Stud Stakes field is released – many bookmakers will open early markets, or all-in markets, for your Vinery Stud Stakes betting. This is probably the ideal time to place a bet on your horse because you might be able to get tasty odds.

Once the bookies announce their 2022 Vinery Stud Stakes odds, they will tend to fluctuate day-by-day. There are a number of things that cause these fluctuations, but when we get a clearer idea of the type of horses that will be targeting the race, as well as their recent form, you will see the odds change frequently.

If you do choose to place your bets in these early markets, it means you could find the favourite at double digit odds or more. This means that if your horse does go on to win, you will get more return on your investment! However, there is increased risk if you choose to bet at this time and you should be aware of the risks.

Depending on when you place your 2022 Vinery Stud Stakes futures bet, your horse may not even get a run, but you won’t get your money back, occurring when the market is ‘All-In’ or closer to the start date. If you are looking to have a bet when it says ‘Before Noms’, then you can rest easy knowing you will get your cash back if your horse doesn’t run in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

A solid field of 14 runners contested the Vinery Stud Stakes in 2022, while emergency Hidden Smile was lucky to get a run after Honeycreeper was scratched from the race.

While the field would have originally thought they would be going around at Rosehill Racecourse, like usual, this was no usual race. The Saturday meeting was cancelled after three races due to the heavy rain. The rest of the meeting was moved to the following Monday at Newcastle Racecourse.

Leading into the race it was Surround Stakes winner Hinged favourite at $4.00, just ahead of unbeaten Qld mare Gypsy Goddess, at $4.20. Fangirl and Pretty Amazing are next at $6.00 and $7.50, and Never Been Kissed rounds out the runners in single figures at $9.00.
