    Randwick Guineas Introduction

The Randwick Guineas is a Group 1 race which takes place each year in March. The race in 2023 will be held on Saturday 4th of March at Randwick Racecourse. Looking back to the race in 2022, it was won by Converge.

It is a set weights race for three year olds and forms the first leg of the three year old ‘triple crown’, with the other two legs being the Rosehill Guineas and the Australian Derby, both run at fortnightly intervals after the Randwick Guineas.

The race is a relatively young race having commenced in 2006, although has historical ties to the Canterbury Guineas, which was run at a variety of tracks over distances from 1800 to 1900 metres but was ceased in 2005 shortly after the amalgamation of the two Sydney race clubs and major program overhauls.

The winner of the race automatically qualifies for a start in both the Australian Derby and the Doncaster Mile.

Is Previous Randwick Guineas Form a Good Indicator of Future Success?

Although a relatively young race, the Randwick Guineas has an impressive resume of winners.

Not only have some of the real stars of the Australian turf etched their name on the honour roll in their sophomore year such as Weekend Hussler, Shoot Out and Mosheen, but it also lays claims to be a stallion making race with the likes of Dundeel, The Autumn Sun and Dissident having won the race.

Should I Bet On The Favourite in the Randwick Guineas?

Favourites, particularly short priced favourites have a strong record in the Randwick Guineas and the majority of overall winners have been well in the market. Randwick Guineas Odds 2023

Before the official Randwick Guineas field is released – many Aussie bookies will open early markets, or all-in markets, for your Randwick Guineas betting needs. Many believe this is the best time to bet on the race, as you might be able to bet on excellent runners for the 2022 Randwick Guineas at high odds.

Once the bookies release the 2023 Randwick Guineas odds, you will find that they will tend to fluctuate in the lead up to the race, especially when there is a better idea of which horses will be targeting the race, as well as their form in recent races or trials.

If you choose to punt in these early markets, it means you could find one of the favourites at a price of $10 or higher. This means if your chosen horse does go on to win, you will get more return on your investment. However, there is increased risk if you choose to go down this path, so make sure you understand the risks.

The risk depends on when you place your 2023 Randwick Guineas futures bet, because your horse may not even run, but you won’t get your money back, occurring when the market is ‘All-In’ or closer to the starting date. Although, if you are betting when it says ‘Before Noms’, then you know you’ll receive your money back if your horse doesn’t run.

The 2023 Randwick Guineas odds are yet to be released. Please check back here closer to the race and we will have the odds below.

    Randwick Guineas Field 2023

We got exactly what we were hoping for in the 2022 edition of the Randwick Guineas, as we saw Cox Plate runner up Anamoe and the J.J. Atkins winner in Converge, go head-to-head. And the first two to cross the line? Converge and Anamoe!

Anamoe jumped as the short priced favourite, at $1.90 to place, but wasn’t able to get the job done on a heavy 9 track. He was working hard to make up the ground, but couldn’t get there in the end. With over $4 million in prizemoney, it was easy to understand why Anamoe was the clear favorite.

In the next line of betting, there was Hilal, at $4.40 to place. Hilal had just come second in the Hobartville Stakes, but had never been tested on a heavy track before. The winner, Converge, was on the next line of betting, at $6.60 to win. This was his second Group 1 win, and he had also contested the Hobartville Stakes, and finished in third place.

    Randwick Guineas Results 2023

With the 2023 Randwick Guineas yet to be run and won, let’s have a look back at the 2022 edition of the Randwick Guineas to see if there are any form indicators that can help you find the next winner.

It was a heavy 9 track for the field of 10 runners to contend with, after it had been raining all week in Syndey. But us punters got to see the show we had all been waiting for, as it was a shootout between Converge and Anamoe.

Converge ended up getting the win, just 0.29L back to Anamoe. Anamoe just had too much ground to make up and was still back in 8th at the 800m mark.

Interestingly the top 3 in the Randwick Guineas, all finished in the top 3 in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes in their last start, obviously in a different order however. With Hilal, who finished second in the Hobartville Stakes, rounding out the minor placings in the Randwick Guineas.
