Two-time Melbourne Cup placegetter Prince Of Arran is lining up in the Melbourne Cup for the third time, with connections hoping it’s a case of third time the charm for the talented stayer.

The Charlie Fellowes trained galloper was second in 2019 and third in 2018, and travelling foreman Aled Beech is hoping that 2020 is the year they can break through.

Beech has been in quarantine after landing in Sydney and then heading to Melbourne to be with Prince Of Arran ahead of Tuesday’s $8 million contest.

“It’d make it so worth it,” Beech said of breaking through and winning the Melbourne Cup this year.

“It wasn’t easy getting over. If we could win it would be incredible.

“You think about it (winning) over and over in your head. You’ve got a lot to think about when you’re in a hotel room for two weeks.

“It would be nice if it came true.”

Prince Of Arran has drawn the inside barrier this year, after drawing some awkward gates in previous years, and Beech is pleased with the draw.

“Happy enough,” Beech said regarding drawing barrier one.

“It’s much better than drawing out wide like we have the previous few years. It just gives Jamie more options and makes her life easier.”

Prince Of Arran is currently an $11 chance in the 2020 Melbourne Cup.
