Trainer Danny O’Brien has ruled out star galloper Russian Camelot returning to the Melbourne Cup (3200m) next year after his brave eighth in the 2020 edition on Tuesday.
“He will never run a 3200-metre race again,” O’Brien said while speaking to racing.com.
“I think he ran as good as he could, but he didn’t quite stay the strong two mile as it was on the day,” O’Brien said.
“He gave us everything he had and he came up short.”
The rising star is now in the paddock after his spring preparation, which was highlighted by his win in the Underwood Stakes, as well as placing in the Cox Plate.
