2019 Melbourne Cup favourite and placegetter Il Paradiso is nearing a return to the track after recovering from injury.
Trainer Chris Waller has revealed the son of Galileo will target Group 1 goals in Sydney’s autumn carnival in 2021, after a long spell due to a tear strain in its near fore leg.
“We are getting him ready for a Sydney Cup and a Tancred Stakes and things like that,” Waller said.
“He is not far away from coming back into the stables. He is obviously lightly raced, he has had a long break.”
Il Paradiso finished a luckless third in the 2019 Melbourne Cup, behind Vow And Declare, and Prince Of Arran, in a controversial finish involving Master Of Reality.

Waller isn’t exactly sure when the talented stayer will return to the track, but is confident their cautious approach will pay dividends.
“It is out of my hands at the moment because when they have an injury we hand them over to the experts and they will set out a plan but when the pressure goes on that’s when I will be able to get a better idea,” he said.
“If you take a cautious approach which we have done, you normally have a good result.”
