John McArdle’s exciting colt Hydro Star has opened as the $2.70 favourite in the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
The talented three-year-old will jump from barrier 9 with Jamie Mott onboard, who steered him in his eye-catching debut win at Sandown last month.

The win prompted McArdle to pour cold water on speculation that the colt was heading overseas.
McArdle said that the son of Headwater is as green as they come, but the raw talent the galloper possesses may be enough to get the job done on Saturday.
“He’s six months away from really furnishing, even physically he’ll be a much better colt in the autumn.”
“But would it shock me if he won this weekend or a race this spring, it certainly wouldn’t.”
The bookies certainly agree, having installed Hydro Star as the $2.70 favourite for the Group 3 Vain Stakes, ahead of Rulership ($3), Ranting ($6), and Larimer Street ($8.50).
Last year’s Vain Stakes was taken out by star Godolphin sprinter Bivouac.
