Aysar heads into Saturday’s 2020 Sandown Guineas as the overwhelming favourite ($1.70) and trainer Ben Hayes expects the talented colt to run out a strong mile and take care of his rivals.
Speaking about Aysar’s narrow loss to Ole Kirk in the Caulfield Guineas, Hayes says it indicates his galloper has no issues about the distance.
“It was the best three-year-old in Australia that beat him and that was only a small margin, so I really think he runs a strong mile.”
“I am not convinced he doesn’t (run a strong mile) and I think he will show that tomorrow and I think he will be really strong through the line.”

“He has such a good record at Sandown with two wins, one on each of the Lakeside and Hillside, and a Group 2 will be good for his resume if he can win.
“He hasn’t shown any signs of training off and I think he will run a really nice race.”
Even though stablemate Crosshaven got the better of Aysar last start in the Carbine Club Stakes, it didn’t change their minds that Aysar has the higher ceiling of the two gallopers.
“We’ve always had a high opinion of Aysar … always thought he was our number one seed.”
“Crosshaven snuck up a little bit on us. He just kept improving every run, but I wouldn’t take anything away from Aysar.
“I think last start Crosshaven had everything in its favour and just had a stronger sprint just at the end of the race.”
Aysar looked the winner but his stablemate Crosshaven kicked back and wins the Carbine Club Stakes.
