Deep Speed Ready to Tackle Listed Level

Fri 27th November 2020

Promising gelding Deep Speed is set to have another crack at listed level, lining up in Saturday’s McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

The son of Deep Field has already had success at the 1200m at The Valley, before placing behind Shelby Cobra in the listed Springtime Stakes at Flemington last start.

Co-trainer Calvin McEvoy believes that returning to 1200m will advantage Deep Speed, who didn’t see out the 1400m last outing. Luke Currie will take the ride, with no direct instructions for Saturday.

“There’s no real plan for Luke but from where he’s drawn, he can make that decision,” McEvoy told Racing Pulse.“He normally jumps well and likes to roll along at a high cruising speed.”

“It’s a big step up in grade but he’ll be there for a long time and hopefully he controls the race.”
