Jockey Damien Oliver has added to his strong book of spring rides by securing the mount on favourite Mo’unga in the 2020 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Trainer Chris Waller has confirmed that the unbeaten colt will be heading to Melbourne to contest the $2 million feature, rather than contest the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in Sydney.

Mo’unga caught the eye when resuming at Newcastle, before flying home in his city debut to win the listed Dulcify Stakes last start.

Oliver will be looking to add another Caulfield Guineas victory to his lengthy CV, having last won the event in 1990 on Centro for the Lee Freedman camp.

The champion rider brought up his 120th Group 1 victory on Russian Camelot in the Underwood Stakes (1800m) last Saturday.

Mo’unga is the $5 favourite for the Caulfield Guineas in the all-in market, with Golden Rose winner Ole Kirk ($6) the next best, followed by Glenfiddich ($7), North Pacific ($9) and King’s Legacy ($9).

From Muswellbrook to the Melbourne Cup, Will is mad about all things racing and sport. Spent countless hours in the backyard as a child pretending to be Glenn McGrath, and has been known to get deadly late swing with a taped tennis ball.
