The 2020 Golden Rose (1400m) is upon us, with no shortage of drama in the lead up following Farnan’s spectacular failure in the Run To The Rose.

Rothfire heads in as the hot favourite, let’s see if anything can get the better of the ‘Thriller from Chinchilla’.

The rail is back in the true and it’s predicted to be a Good 4 surface, which should mean the track plays fairly and winners should be able to come from anywhere.

1 – Rothfire – $1.95 ???

It’s tough to knock this guy. Some pundits were questioning the Queensland form before the Run To The Rose, but The Thriller From Chinchilla put all of those queries to bed last start. Looks to map perfectly behind probable leader Yardstick, has won at 1400m before, and should be able to peel out at the right time and get the job done. Very hard to beat.

2 – King’s Legacy – $17

Never had a chance last start and should improve stepping up in distance and fitness, but I’m looking to others here. I’ll be following him later in the prep over the mile and above.

3 – Mamaragan – $14 ?

Should be able to settle a few pairs back on the fence and is another who will enjoy the step up in distance. He hasn’t had much luck so far this preparation and I’m expecting an improved showing, worth including in exotics.

4 – Ole Kirk – $9 ??

A massive sustained run to place in the Run To The Rose after a five week break, and is benefited by added fitness and the step up in trip. I think he could be the one to cause the most trouble to Rothfire if everything goes right, and I think he’ll be a very good chance in the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) if the Hawkes camp decide to send him there after this.

5 – North Pacific – $5.50 ??

The map is a little tricky here and he may be spotting Rothfire quite a few lengths, but he’s certainly a chance to be in the finish and will go in all exotics. His best runs have been on wet decks, which is a little question mark.

6 – Global Quest – $26 ??

Interesting setup from Waller after this galloper resumed over the 1500m in the Dulcify Stakes last start, finishing second behind Mo’unga. Is a must watch for me and I’d be tempted to include in exotics to sneak a place at the big price.

7 – Peltzer – $8.50 ?

Should be able to stalk Yardstick and Rothfire and get a nice economical trip, and certainly has the ability to run a place.

8 – Sauvestre – $61

Has run reasonably well this preparation but he’s been thrown into the deep end here and would need to rapidly improve.

9 – Yardstick – $51

Will certainly make his own luck and should lead them here, but will need to be t his best to hang on in the finish, with some very talented runners chasing him down.

Tip: 1-4-5-3

? = Must Watch
? = Big Winning Chance
?= Worth Including in Exotics
