It’s looking like a cracking day of racing at Rosehill with the 2020 Run To The Rose (1200m) headlining things, featuring a star crop of three-year-olds.
The rail is out 6 metres, with this rail position historically favouring those settling in the first four in run, with rails also an advantage. I’ll be looking to favour runners who race on speed.
Race 1 – Benchmark 78 – 2400m
It’s very tough to knock Cadre Du Noir, who made a mess of his opposition last start at Sandown at his first attempt at the distance. This is obviously a step up from midweek grade, but looks classy enough to win this with J Mac onboard.

Race 4 – Benchmark 88 – 1100m
Masked Crusader is obviously a very talented galloper who lost no fans when flying home first up behind a rock hard fit Varda.
However, there’s no luxury with the price here and I’m happy to look at Fituese, who impressed in a recent trial and maps a lot better than the favourite. If she can sit outside the leader or box seat she’ll definitely give you a big look at the better odds.

Race 6 – Run To The Rose – 1200m
This could be the race of the spring so far, with Farnan heading in as favourite after Gai Waterhouse declared that he ‘will not be beaten’ this preparation.
The Everest slot holder Rothfire will be gunning for the lead attempting to hold out Farnan, with Peltzer stalking them. These three should be favoured in run, with Mamaragan likely to be the next in line on the rail. North Pacific is the wildcard, as he showed a massive turn of foot in his win last start.
I’m happy to just stay out and watch this one as a neutral, with this all-star cast all well enough found in the market.

Race 7 – Theo Marks Stakes – 1300m
It’s almost D Day for Funstar, with this Waller mare having massive expectations around her. She’s yet to prove herself outside of her own sex, and this is a chance to do so. She ran home well after being given no chance from the back of the field, and should be better suited here.
She’s drawn well enough to sit a few pairs back on the rail, and will need to be within stalking distance of the leaders with the expected track pattern.
If you’re keen to take her on, then Wild Planet and Fender look like reasonable options with their maps and prices in the market.

Race 8 – Sheraco Stakes – 1200m
Fasika looks the pick of them here, after impressing in a number of trials including a win over star sprinter Gytrash.
I might have egg on my face after Saturday, but I’m willing to take her on first up at the skinny price, where she’ll have to jump near perfectly or risk being caught midfield in a big field.
I’d be looking a small each way plays at Haut Brion Her and Seasons, who look to get better runs in transit and look overs in the market.
